Looking for a opinions on both lines, like which one do you like better and why. I’m looking for a tips line for a Burkheimer 8142.
Thanks

Give the guys at Burkheimer a call. Several of them are/were on the Nextcast team and I' pretty certain that they have cast all of the Gaelforces on nearly all the rods. Or better yet, come to the Sandy clave and cast them yourself.....by far the best way to make that call.

I like the nextcast better overall.

For another alternative, the gaelforce eemt is amazing as well ESPECIALLY if you are casting gigantic stuff. But, I think head+tip adds up to a length of 40 feet or so(?) I’d have to look at mine. I like how they use 8 wt tips with 8 wt line and 9 wt tips with 9 wt lines.

For the wa 55, most Use 7 wt Rio replacement tips, (no matter what wa55 you get)Try to Keep it under 100 grains, i.e have no issue casting 10 feet of t-11. For fly size.... I can’t manage to turn over any fly over 19 grains... but who knows may be a personal problem haha.

FYI I’m not sure how familiar you are with those replacement tips... but you will be replacing (pun intended) them on a regular basis. They crack badly for me after half a season, but I do fish quite often.

I have the same experience with them as you - I seem to loose or misplace them before they crack or wear out, and some have seen a ridiculous number of hours of use. Every once in a while, as with any tip, I will get unlucky and snag one wedged under a rock the wrong way, and have to retire it. But they are super durable. Might be a sign on not using a proper matchup at the junction, or possibly they were stored in a hostile envrioment like a hot trunk for too long. But who knows?

Rio replacements are not really tapered. They have an almost unnoticeable couple of foot (very slight) taper at the front but are basically slightly modified level tips.

FWIW comparing those two lines is an apples to oranges thing to my mind. The WA55 is more forgiving, and easier to cast right from the start. I think the Gaelforce is the better line where applicable, has a more subtle taper, and is likely to prove more rewarding in the long run. The WA is a short belly line where the butt is just a level section. The contrast becomes very apparent if you cast them side by side for a few weeks. I like them both, but there really is no good comparison.

Yes, a definite feature of the NC heads is the NEED to mend the butt end upstream almost every cast. Use one for a couple of weeks straight and you may have a hard time stoping yourself from doing that knee jerk style on a more gently tapered line. :chuckle:

Exactly what happened this past Monday with the carron 85’ haha. I seriously thought about ditching heads because you really have to be attentive to how they swing vs integrated line that fishes for you in the same situation.
