My Switch Line Survey https://raspberryfisher.wordpress.co...nes-my-survey/
I know many really like the OPST Skagit, but after 2 years of experimenting, I actually shifting my preference away from OPST to the Airflo Rage for short small river swinging, such as with Mouse, for short rod spey casting.
If using a single hand rod and large mice with spey technique, I would be thinking 280 grains, and on the Rage on a switch 330+ grains.
As far as rods, for close in technique (and-or tree overhead) I am using:
* Single Handle Scott ARC 9'6" 7wt - 4pc. At times, a 8wt would be nice. (I do have a 9wt in Scott ARC. but I find this a little too heavy). It is usually line with a RIO
Multi-Tip Line and most often with an intermediate tip. Whether it is a small muddler, rabbit tube, sculpzilla or a mouse.
* Switch - James Green 7wt 10'0". https://raspberryfisher.wordpress.co.../rod-building/
but as noted I am shifting to the Rage.
If I am heading to a trout river (for anything <10lbs), I will also add
* Meiser S1264 - 12'6" 4wt. I believe it is a 324gr SGS line (Scandi). This is my favourite 2H rod!
But if travelling by air, and do not want to pack long tubes, then
* Meiser 1305S 5pc https://raspberryfisher.wordpress.co...rods-and-more/
with a Guideline 3D 78. This is a 411 grain scandi.
If you looking to add a switch rod, consider if you want to be able to fly with it and put it in a small standard rod carrier. I do not have a Meiser switch, but in the absence of Scott ARC, I would look there first.
Last, if throwing a mouse of off the front of the boat into the weeds - single hand double haul - I will use Scott Merdian 8wt that replaced my old goto Loomis GL3 7wt. I might even go larger, if I am also going to through large pike and musky flies. https://raspberryfisher.wordpress.co...i-11wt-review/
