It all depends on the length of the rod and the weight of the line. You can't balance a rod and reel without taking the line into consideration. You need the rod lined with the approximate length of line outside the tip as you would expect for normal casting, then you can get a sense of how well balanced the combination is. I'd suggest going to a fly shop or a friend whose home resembles one and start experimenting, you'll find one you like and maybe save some money in the process. IMO, a trout spey doesn't need a super expensive drag. I use a Hardy Marquis 10 (narrow spool) on my Meiser 10'6" 3-4-5 weight switch rod.
