Both are good reels and great options as backups. Most companies now are putting out very solid first-level reels. Redington's Behemouth and the discontinued Sage 2210 (at discount) would also be good options. I do know that Echo sells weights for the Ion too if you don't like the way that the reel balances your rod.
However, one thing to watch with either (any) of those reels above would be thin running lines pinching between the spool and the frame: that is a consideration for any reel without a cage. Orvis Battenkill gives a caged click and pawl for around the same price as those above. I think the first disc-drag caged reels start for a few more dollars: things like Lamson Remix HD, Orvis Battenkill Disc, etc. You may find good deals on discontinued Sage Domains too.
Vintage is always a cool option too. Lots of affordable "workmanlike" old reels around.
