Size, the Size 1 is designed for light work, ie. light single handlers for bonefish etc; whereas the size 2 was larger designed for medium weight saltwater single handed use.
The size 2 can be used on light Spey outfits, my mate Neil has one & it takes up to a #7/8/9 Windcutter & backing. I would guess that by today's standards it would work fine with #7 & #8 weights, possibly a size larger with full sinkers as they are thinner than floating lines.
They used a stacked washer drag similar to the drag on a star drag multiplier with a knurled wheel situated under the handle to adjust the setting, & have non reversing handles so you can safely do this without getting battered by the handles when a fish runs.
Regards, Tyke.
