I’m very sad to report that Paul Dudley, known here as Xgolfman, passed away this morning after a long and brave battle. He was a fixture on the Skagit and Sauk rivers and was never without his dog Lola. RIP Paul. You will be missed.

I feared this was coming. Paul's Facebook page hadn't been updated since March, and I dreaded what that might mean. I didn't know Paul except through these pages, but in both exchanging information and in various trades we did I felt I knew him well. He was a real gentleman in my book, and fought the good fight against his disease, always optimistic and hopeful. I'm really sorry, and sincere regrets to his family.

Same, sorry to hear about this, very sad day. I only knew him on here but enjoyed his posts as well as his sense of humor. Exchanged a number of PMs with him over the years especially in the past year or so encouraging him during his battle with cancer. He will definitely be missed on the forum.

Sad, very sad to hear, I met Paul at a CND demo day on the Sky, he was a nice guy. No more suffering though and the rivers are full of bright fish looking to take a skatter in Valhalla! RIP Paul!

I will tye up on of his Seahawk dee fly, and toast his life with a wee dram!

I’m heartbroken with the passing of Paul. He was so full of life and always kept a conversation going and going and going! He was one in a million with a heart of gold. Whatever he did he dove in 100%. He started fishing a bit late in life but usually caught more fish than anyone else. He was a very accomplished fly tier and the consummate line junkie. The world (and our community) has lost a truly wonderful man. I know that he touched my life in a way that not many have done, I will miss him immensely. RIP buddy, I hope you are fighting a “big one” right now.

Sad to hear. I reached out to Paul during his treatments in Arizona. As a cancer survivor myself and having gone through a bone marrow transplant, I offered encouragement and we exchanged flies. I still have them in my basement. Never managed to meet in person, for which I am sorry. He always keep a positive attitude, which is needed in the battle with cancer.

I wish I'd gotten to know him during the time when he was a member of my fly fishing club. Later, I sold him a batch of fly tying books. About a decade ago, at his request, I spent a summer day showing him and a friend most of the accesses to the North Fork of the Stillaguamish, that dying legend of a steelhead river. Somehow, I knew that he'd never abuse that knowledge.

We had in common the understanding that some spey rods are more than tackle, that they are magic wands leading us into the heart of the best rivers and fish that this world affords. Only a week ago, I offered to sell him a rod I thought he'd appreciate. I didn't know...

Kind words everyone. Paul was my best friend and I am sad to see this happen. I was there that day on the Stilly, Mac. Just so you all know, Paul didn't suffer much. Up until yesterday, he wasn't suffering and was as comfortable as anyone can be in these circumstances. He passed away early this morning. He was a great friend, generous, kind and big hearted. He has been my fishing partner for a long time and I will miss him.

I've been stuck here for 20 minutes not knowing what to say ... my heart is heavy.
Paul and I never met face to face. We talked on the phone, exchanged emails and sent PM's quite often. We talked rods, lines, reels and mostly flies and tying. I could tell he was a freak like me.
We had made some plans for me for me to visit, talked where to fish, what to expect ... the usual stuff. Talked about off the river stuff too, always great conversations.
Paul was considered a brother from another mother ... I'm glad that our paths crossed.
Now he fishes the "Big River" with glowing dime bright fish that take him into his backing at every run ... I'll see you bank-side at the fire pit my brother, have a whiskey and coffee with a cigar, then we'll make a pass through a run together.

So sad. It is always difficult to lose such a well known member. I did not know Paul personally, but enjoyed reading his posts.

Like many have said, I am sure he is in a better place and at peace.

Sorry to hear the news,
Doug

So sad to hear but really glad to hear he didn't suffer too much.

Like most here I only knew Paul through the Pages and the couple of selling transactions we had.

I will miss his contributions.

He's in a better place now. RIP

I sure can't add to anything that has been said...except that as someone who has played the game his user name of "xgolfman" made him one of the good guys to me...and I suspect he would appreciate that.

RIP Paul !!!
