In Praise of Steve Godshall

Needed to do some cutting on a ballistic vector, so I called up Steve on Wednesday. Gave me very specific instructions, and then asked if I had shrink tube and smaller diameter line to weld on to the thick stuff. I was out of the thin line, had shrinking quantity of clear shrink tube. Steve asks for my address, puts line and shrink tube in an envelope, and I get it on Friday. No charge.

This will be a familiar story to anyone who's dealt with Steve, of course.

Got to see Steve yesterday. He is always exremely charitable with what he has and with his time and talents. He is intelligent, kind, and humble. It is a pleasure to know him.

All of the above posts about Steve Godshall are accurate. My experience with Steve has been with a person that will go above and beyond when answering your questions or solving your spey rod problems. Steve is a great and integrable part of Bob's organization.

Doug

That was not a bad cast. I was just casting to the nearby fish.

Everybody has to make a living, but Steve is one of those few people who gives you the impression he would do the same thing if he was free to do whatever he wanted. He genuinely enjoys interacting with people and helping them. When I had him build some full intermediate scandi lines for shad fishing he immediately put me in touch with a good friend of his in Sacramento. By this I mean he called and told him who I was and asked him to help me out! His friend met me, went over about everything he knew about on the subject, and even took me to Kiene’s fly shop and showed me how to tie a bloody Maria! So even his friends are nice!
