Stolen Boat on the Yakima River Today!

What a weird day; wanted to try out a new rod so I decided to float a short section of river in the lower canyon. It was about 37 degrees when I passed by Reds Fly Shop and pretty calm. By the time I drove a few more miles downstream, the temperature jumped up to 55 degrees and was blowing about 25 mph. As a stood at the boat launch, trying to decide whether to launch the boat or not, I snapped a couple of pictures. The take out was only about a mile downstream so I planned on just walking back to the truck at the end of the drift. At the time I didnít think it might be the last time I saw my boat.

With the wind blowing more than I wanted to deal with, I decided to drive back upriver and try a spot just upstream of Umptanum. Again, it was about 17 degrees colder there (even though it was only about 10 miles away) but it was a lot calmer. Weird weather! Because my waders were in the back of the truck, I unstrapped the boat, set it on the ground and put on my waders. It was a very wide spot on the road so I decided to leave the boat on the ground and went upstream a hundred yards or so and made my way down to the river. For a brief moment I thought leaving the boat there could be a little risky but quickly dismissed it because 1) I was only a hundred yards away, 2) I was only going to fish about 15 minutes, long enough to try the rod out, 3) it was getting late and there was not a lot of traffic, and 4) even though the boat is pretty small, it is still 9 feet long and would take the right vehicle to stop and take with it without really planning on it in advance. I figured it would be safe in the short amount of time Iíd be on the river and the short distance away.

Well, apparently in the 15 minutes that I was fishing, a person did drive by and stole the boat from along the side of the road. I have said it before after getting an outboard motor taken, thieves suck but I guess that is the world we live in now. The boat certainly is unique; probably the only one of itís kind in the entire world; only because I put a few extras on the boat that nobody else has done. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the person to stole it!

Dude I’m so sorry, that’s terrible. I absolutely hate thieves! I hope it turns up someday. If a loser is willing to steal something like that they’re probably just looking to make some quick money. If you have the serial number turn it into PD. Good luck.

Let them go, let them grow

Always sickening to hear such things. Such a wonderful raft, too.

Every time I hear or read about something like this, I loose more faith in humanity.
As a fisherman, I could not fathom how a fisherman would take something from another fisherman that enhances the sport.
As a human, I could not fathom how a human would take something of enjoyment and release from another human.

Sad world we live in with upside down priorities ....

I wish you all the best for you and your family this Christmas season. You are taking this very well and I applaud you for having such a good attitude and being of firm nature.
For the person or persons who took your property, I hope they feel the conviction of their act some day. Not for vindication, but more for changing their ways.

Hope you find your boat, or replace it with something that you can have the same enjoyment with

A coupl friends floated to the opposite side of the river to fish, pulled the raft way up the bank and went up river to fish. Came back down and was gone, had to wait for someone to come pick them up.

Canadian thieves usually target jet sleds and other motorized craft.

Perhaps it is just a question of time before inflatable rafts start disappearing too? We would not want to be left out.

Science is not common sense. Much of it is devoted to a systematic documentation of what we do not know and understand.

Sucks. Sorry. Someone stole all of my tools from my fire burned property, as if losing the house and everything I owned wasn't enough.
