Found Gloves that Work!

Last year I posted asking about Kast gloves and was going to update that thread but thought better of it and making new one.

I did end up training myself to fish wearing the Simms G4 gloves. Trick was to tie all knots ahead of time and don't plan on changing flies. Fished through a full afternoon (6 hours) in a downpour at 37 degrees and at the end of it all my hands were good to go. Can't say that would be the case bare handed.

But...….. over the course of summer I found a pair of Striker Ice gloves at Sportsman's Wearhouse. Sized all the way to XXL which is what I need and purported to be waterproof and warm.....

I will post a photo of them in use tonight as I'm ready to go deal with environmental conditions right now

They are thin. They allow good line handling (better than the G4) and are fairly warm but I wouldn't think much good below 30 degrees on a long day.

I'm happy with them. Maybe give them a try if you are still looking for a good glove for casting. Same as any other glove though in that if you take them off - get hands wet - then try putting them back onto cold wet hands it's a no go. So choose a good fly and then have at it.

Oh, almost forgot. That XXL thing, that is precisely why all the fish pictures I ever posted include fish that look small. It's the hands!

I’m very interested in this. Can you be more specific which striker gloves you are talking about - the “second skin ones? Some other? Thanks.

Like a lot of people I’m guessing, gloves for cold weather fishing have been a perennial issue for me. Basically being able to do what I need to do with my hands is the dominant bottleneck for me in cold weather raising them to a greater importance than might at first be in imagined.

I snatched a picture off their website, mine are just like these.

They are called Second Skin gloves, mine actually have the words 'Striker Ice' on the label. The ones pictured lack the word Ice.

Google search and try to find direct website.

Saw this, and immediately thought of winter fishing.
