Wild Steelhead in my Ohio grocery store?

Can someone please explain why I have wild steelhead from Washington in my grocery store in Ohio? Are these bycatch or hatchery fish that are pulled? Either way I’m furious and don’t understand

Wild my a$$; gotta be farm fish. I think fish marts label things wild all the time and they're not. What a shame in the slim chance they are.

If it is from tribal nets, that's BS. I'll spare every body from my opinion on that... But I'm sure half of you would laugh your butts off and the other half would get offended!

I have a hard time believing they’d have enough supply from tribal nets to make it all the way to Ohio... It’s actually funny, in our area the Lake Erie fish aren’t very desirable as a result of the warmer water, and therefor I wouldn’t think they would be marketed as such. I live thousands of miles away and this upsets me, and I can’t help but to think of the reaction if they were selling “wild Atlantic salmon” from New Brunswick. Or how they’re considered an endangered species in Russia where they don’t even fish for them?!? I know it’s all been said but seeing that doesn’t make any sense.

The Quinalt tribe does net the Quinalt , Queets and Chehaless system. It is their treaty right, end of story. They have suspended all fishing in the Quinalt river for low returns, kudos too them for stepping up.
Unfortunately they see no difference in a wild or hatchery fish, a fish is a fish. They run a massive hatchery that pumps out millions of smolts(they don't clip the andipose) and had been kknown for some big fish come from that broodstock program. Unfortunately the wild run has been so diluted that its spiraling the drain..
There is a lot of fish marketed as wild steelhead but is pen raised trout from the Columbia river.

Best thing to do is boycott the stores that keep buying from them and let the managers know why. I could go on and on and on about this.

Those are probably farmed steelhead (i.e., triploid rainbow trout) from a net pen fish farm in Rufus Woods reservoir on the mid-Columbia River. Or else they aren't fresh! As Rifflehitch pointed out, the Quinault Tribe closed the Quinault River to both recreational and commercial gillnet fishing a week ago.

Please do not buy 'wild caught' steelhead from the PNW. Boycotting works.

I doubt that the store is falsely marketing farm raised fish as wild. There is tribal netting for wild steelhead and salmon on all of the OP rivers including the Hoh, Queets, Quinault, and Quillayute system (Sol Duc, Bogachiel, Calawah rivers). The nets might be out of the Quinault at this point in the season, I'm sure they already caught their share anyway, but they are still in the Quillayute 5 days a week and in the Hoh at least one day. It is a treaty fishery, but its still an in river commercial fishery for wild fish. Nothing more or less. The market for them is pretty limited at this point locally, Seattle, Portland areas, so they are shipped out of area to be sold. Kelts and other undesirable fish are sold for crab bait and the like. Pretty disheartening

Last fall the Quillayute wild kings were knowingly overharvested by 300% with no real repercussions for the tribal fishermen. After the fact they tried to save face by suggesting to WDFW that all fishing should be shut down to save the fish. None of this information seems to leave the area.
