Poll: do you carry a firearm while fishing?

Let's keep this one simple, no need for additional comments. Just a quick sampling, and I'm asking specifically about the "2 legged threat" not bears, moose, sea lions, etc. There have been a number of discussions on most aspects of guns and carrying/ using them, not really interested in furthering that at the moment here.
I think a lot of folks might be curious to know, just how many here carry a weapon while fishing. For some members I know that it's not a legal option, so I put two choices in for that as well.
Cheers,
JB

I'll comment just to point something out.

You have no, no context behind this. Different scenarios call for different reasons. Once I get money I'm picking up a pump 12 gauge for remote Kootenay fishing. For back up for bears, that would be considered "carrying"

Sorry if the context wasn't clear. I was just asking about carrying for potential threat from other people, not for other purposes.

If I ever feel that great a need to protect myself from people while fishing, I will certainly find a new place to go fishing.

Never ever felt threatened up here in Canada, and even with bears there are other deterrents other than firearms, such as bells and sprays. Thinking about it, I don't know one person up here that packs while fishing.

I don't know anyone here in Montana who does either though I'm sure there are some who do, just not anyone I know.
I'll be camping up on the Missouri for a couple days next week. There won't be any guns.

This sh1t is old and irrelevant to the subject forum

Who cares?

Carry or not, doesn't belong. If you are hard up for gun talk go to a gun forum. You'll find people who fish

other topics like whisky, dams, dogs, cameras, etc. are discussed here regularly - its just that guns are a lot more contentious. As long as people are respectful, I view it as an opportunity to learn.

Ummm yep definately makes me think twice about visiting the states for a peaceful fishing experience... knowing that so many people are packin heat, plus the sketchy meth heads roaming about.

I've stood some heat.. stood strong.. representing Canadians undesputed right to manage their own fisheries. I've seen first hand MANY TIMES the arrogant American attitude.. and find it offensive myself. Advised others to avoid acting the stereo type.

I've counseled to appreciate what you have, how fortunate you likely are.. not to suffer from 'tunnel vision' ie, only visualizing only your own home front / home river. There are a lot of varied scenarios to consider.

This should be treated much the same as lawful fishing practices. If it's legal than it should be acceptable, provided folks follow within defined guidelines..

"Plus they don't obsess or verbally masturbate over fire arms"

J James, I'm surprised to read this coming from you. I don't mean this to be offensive.. just "surprising" (as a fan of your postings) I've yet to see much gushing over firearms here.. especially in comparison to say; wader / skagit threads.. or coolest S handled reels.
