Air Canada - Smithers

I know and accept that Air Canada is one of the worst airlines in North America. It's only rival is United which, it is hard to believe, offers even poorer service. That said, in Smithers Monday, Air Canada "topped" United. On the morning flight from Smithers to Vancouver, Air Canada off loaded thirty bags and left them on the ground. Mine was one of them. If this was a "one time thing" I might understand. In speaking with friends who fly to and from Smithers on a regular basis I learned that this happens on a regular basis in both directions. So regular, that when buddies are going fishing they often arrive Smithers a day early as they expect their bags to be missing. What I do not understand is how Westjet can be so good flying Vancouver to Terrace and Air Canada so bad flying to Smithers. Luckily for me, I mostly fly Vancouver to Terrace on Westjet.
Now, if only Westjet starts serving Smithers!

Sorry to hear about this. That said AC is actually ranked the best airline in North America...just shows had bad everyone else is.

We've never had issues at AC. My buddy flew Westjet this year and they cancelled a flight on him and forced him to depart on a 5:30am flight instead of his scheduled 10:30am flight.

I'd rather be chasing mykiss or salar...

baggage gets bumped for freight? more $ in freight and the plane can only carry so much weight safely. That's just the way it is.

What does the amount of education that is required to be a baggage handler have to do with luggage being left on the tarmac ??

Do you actually think that a baggage handler makes the decision of what cargo is on the flight ???

I guess it's the fish's fault too that it didn't take your fly ....

Have you Swung a Spey Fly today ??

Preston is on to something and that is ... all airlines suck, I think that's what he's saying.

What kills me is when you arrive at the airport and there is 2-300 people checking in a for a flight (lineup outside the door) and ONE checkin person for that flight. Doesn't the airline/airport have forewarning so they can staff appropriately, don't they know how many tickets they sold?

Or when you arrive at the airport during bad weather and they tell you all flights are cancelled and they claim NO responsibility whatsoever as to if/how/when they can get you home - "wait a minute you people SOLD me this ticket and you are supposedly in the business understanding weather patterns, atmospheric conditions..."

The moral of the story is to stay home and work to rehabilitate your local waterways so they can support a fishable population. Seriously though the airline industry has been undergoing a type of commoditization last 20+ years where everyone can now afford to fly. Margins are down, expenses up, competition is fierce.

Passenger planes are nothing more than a big bus in the sky - expect nothing more than repeated crap service in the future.

My wife and i got upgraded to Business Class on Emarites flying back to Melbourne from Auckland ....unbelievable actually lay down to sleep, 30kg of luggage per person and they dont charge for sporting goods, so Rod Tube was free......Glad i wasnt paying for it, but it would be fantastic on those long haul flights....But i know what you are talking about gentlemen....Sometimes you wonder about the budget airlines and whether its worth the hassle.
