Nice tie Mike.......what kind of mandril are you using there? The ones that cam with my adapter (cheap one) suck ass and its a constant battle to keep the tube from rotating even when its jammed up tight to the end.
The pin upon which the tube is mounted is a steel crochet hook. These are smoothly tapered, and come in a variety of sizes (end diameters), and should be available as 'vintage' items on the big auction site for around $1 each
Be sure to get the vintage steel ones, as modern versions are plastic or aluminium, & they're not up to the job.
These crochet hooks have a flattened area in the middle which can be gripped by the jaws of almost any standard hook vice.
