What's happening with sales?

There was a time on SpeyPages when virtually everything posted for sale was scooped up quickly, if of good quality and value. These days it seems very little sells at all--I mean things like Hardy Perfects, Saracione reels, Burkheimer rods etc. offered at what appear to be great prices with no interest. Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just seeing things differently? The economy is in good shape, people are still fishing, but? Or has a few years of acquisition just left everyone with more tackle than they can use?

Just curious if others have observed this trend.

The Spey craze should be entering Phase II right about now which ought to see a significant ramp up in trout Spey and other micro-spey rod sales.

I’m a relatively new two-hander. I’ve been accumulating and improving the quality of my kit. The market right below the stuff I want to step up to is soft and selling a, for example, Beulah Platinum to finance an Onyx seems to be much harder than it was 24 months ago. One the best dealers in the west told me, “The return of the fish to the river appears to be dropping and so is the demand for Spey equipment.

There are bargains out there, but it may take a while for sellers to realize they are going to have to pony up more of there own cash than in the past.

The classic tackle market is in the toilet right now and there are a lot of folks who aren't in tune with this. I recently saw a Hardy perfect advertised for close to $10K that's probably worth more like $1,200 to $1,500 - at least that's the number I came up with after talking it over with a few other experienced tackle collectors like myself. I thought about offering a realistic amount but then after reflecting it realized that there's not a lot to be done with a seller who has this type of expectation. So a big part of the problem is uninformed sellers trying to get top dollar - or maybe even crazy ridiculous dollars. Add that in with a crappy market and stuff doesn't sell.

Lot of speculation on the "why" but everybody should understand that the market is what it is so if you want to sell stuff mark it down until it goes. Otherwise hold onto it and hope it goes back up someday.

Runs of steelhead on the West Coast have been bleak. For example, I have had plenty of trips to the Deschutes on perfect condition Fall days, overcast skies, fished prime water hard, with no competition from other anglers. No tugs. When people are catching lots of fish, it’s easy to justify buying the latest rod, or a new toy. Quickly our closets fill. Similarly if you own several pairs of ski’s and you get no snow, you are not going to buy more and excess kit, that is being under used, will get released on the secondary market at softening prices.

Fishing has obviously been tough for migratory fish and many of us who love to Spey cast and swing a fly, the tugs the drug, have created a flurry of interest in trout spey ... stoked by the tackle industry and specialist shops (same thing is happening with Polish nymph rods). People want to fish and catch more than rarely. Strong runs, more opportunities to fish and sales would tick up some, both at the shops and in the after market.

anyone who feels that this will one day improve in the USA obviously cannot count.
it's haemorrhaging at its best, lads. like you, I despair at the loss.

what an ironic and vicious circle it had all become, hey.
sitting on the outside it reads as being sooo bloody typical.
please bear with my schadenfreude.

people could not keep quiet. for people nowadays are taught to be seen and heard!
and before too long 'be like me!!!!' was heard and seen across the interwebs...

so they did.
and they kept coming. trying to find a little piece of peace.
and now it's gone. it's been missing for awhile, right?

today it's all about blame. and I blame you.
I blame your need to be seen and heard.

see? full circle.

it's easy for me to poke holes, sure. but I can also count.
and I know for a fact if that I give everything away no deity is going to arrive at the end and give it all back in solid gold.
I would just perish and be forgotten about entirely.

this is sense and math.
but let's not forget to shoot the messenger because that also looks and sounds fantastic on the web.

keep fighting for what you may consider are 'rights',

denial also works.

so what will go next?
better yet, tell me one thing that is arriving other than more people.

simple math, lads. population has doubled since 1960.
you need the water elsewhere.

remember, this is a thread lamenting the fact that you cannot unload gear that you no longer have a use for. no one is interested, remember??
and why do you no longer have a use?

because there's no fish.
and why are there no fish?
because there's little water.
and where did all the water go?
I don't know... prolly agriculture.

yeah. and I'm the one who is drunk.
even if I was at least I'd f sober up.

it's gone. wake up!... we're chasing dreams.

cheers!

hey root,
what was the problem on the john day?
I know... I know... nothing. none of my foreign ass business.
