Sad News

I'm sorry, I don't like having to do this.

On 22 March, a brain hemorrhage took a good mate to many of us, Bevin Baker, aka TassieSpey.

Prayers and strength to his lovely wife Keenie, and her family, in this difficult time. Jimmy, aka Tasmania Spey, a good mate to Bevin, and no doubt a big help to Keenie in this time of grief, will need all his strength too.

Calm waters, Bevin!

Two years ago, Bevin reached out to anyone on this site, asking for information on fishing in the U.S. I told him when he reached the left coast to contact me, and I'd introduce him to the Rogue River.

As happens, my calendar got filled, and his travel plans changed, and all I could do was describe where he might fish, after which we could get together - which we did. I met he and wife Keenie at their motel, then took them over to Bob Meiser/Steve Godshall's shop for a wee visit. Great time! We talked rods/fish, had a whisky, etc, then I took Bevin and Keenie to the airport for their flight home to Tasmania.

Both Bevin and Keenie were quick with a smile, great conversationalists, and I felt like I'd known them my whole life.

Although I only 'knew' Bevin through emails and a one-day's visit, I'll miss our email visits, and the possibility of fishing with him one day down under.

Bevin, Keenie, and I (standing) having a pint at the airport.

I had the pleasure of Bevin's company last year on the Tongariro for a few days.....I was hoping for more this year.
His personality, physical presence, genuineness were apparent from that first hand shake before heading off to swing some runs that day. We shared stories
of the Oil Industry/Offshore Exploration sector and he was looking forward to less working and more travelling with his wife (sure there was fishing involved)
He spoke fondly of his visit to the "Rogue" meeting S.G. and Bill, having a casting lesson with April and blowing his anchor.
My thoughts are with Keenie and Family as they deal with his passing.
Thank you Bob Budesa.

Bevin, I will be thinking of you when I step into "that run"

I view myself as being one of the truly fortunate people who had the privilege and simple enjoyment of spending time traveling and fishing with Bevin. This man was one of the worlds true Gentlemen, with the ability to connect with people in an open and genuine way, often at the first meeting. He was a great fan of the Pages and the friends he made through the forum. Thanks Bob for letting everyone know of the passing of Tassie Spey.
This then is the other side of the coin...we can make some good friends through the pages but then we inevitably lose some along the way. Some of our waters have changed forever in my mind after this weeks pain. Thanks to you all for your messages of support and condolence. I will make sure the family are aware of your thoughts. God give me strength for when the time comes to sort out that workshop though.
Sad Regards....Jimmy
