Just joined after lurking for years.
This 72 year old, single hand shooting head & sink tip weighted fly dredger transitioned to Skagit 4 years ago. Thanks to my grandfather, he showed me how to tie flies as an alternative to night crawlers when I was five. Loved hunting trout on the East Coast. Then, in 1976, my job brought me to SW Washington. I have never been the same. Became seriously addicted to searun on the Kalama including the nearby Toutle & Green (before St. Helen). Now reside in Louisiana flogging the water for Reds & Specs. However, yearly 2 to 3 week vacation escapes to the PNW provide rehab that has expanded to the rivers near Forks. The fresh coastal OP Stealhead, Coho & Chinook provide sudden out of control moments. Skagit offers “water hauling” without the double haul or back cast room. The whole beautiful river is accessible to the joy of casting and the possibility of the tap-tap, moving rock, or explosion.
