Hi everyone, my nameís Chaz and Iím a fly fisher from Seattle. I got back into the sport after a long break only a few years ago, and have gradually gotten further into the Spey side of things, but still mostly on the ďmicroĒ side: I started learning Spey techniques to apply them with my light single handed rods when fishing small rivers and streams. It was gratifying to learn that you could apply the principles of Spey casting with practically any rod and line, without needing to buy specialized gear.
Iíve also purchased a few cheap switch rods to start working into the two-handed realm, with modest success, and am definitely eager to go further down the rabbit hole. I finally got a chance to put the system to the test on the north Umpqua last weekend, swinging for steelhead; I didnít get any steelhead, but I did catch a few lovely trout swinging steelhead flies and it showed me just how effective swinging can be.
One of the things that brought me to Speypages was discussion of anglers roost blanks and building them up, since one of my goals for the next year is to build my own rod for the first time. It will be a lot easier to ask questions and get on the right track as a member.
