Hello from Minnesota
My name is Art and I am an older codger at 71.
I was born and raised in Maine and my mother and father were both Maine Guides for hunting and fishing and I've had a fly rod in my hand since I was 7 years old. Back then we spent a lot of time in the Allagash Wilderness in Maine. That's when there was still some real fishing back there. 3 and 4 pound brook trout were common and 7-8 pound landlocked salmon were average and a 10 or 12 pounder once in awhile.
I moved to Minnesota in 98 and had to really change my fishing ways because of the totally different species and type of fishing here.
Wished I had known how good eating bluegill,Sunfish, and yellow perch were when I live back in Maine. Nobody that I know of used to eat those fish, to us they were trash fish.
This year I plan on targeting Muskie and Pike and trying to get together all the gear for that. I had a lifetime accumulation of gear but unfortunately lost almost all of it in a cabin fire this winter, man that was traumatic.
I have not bought any gear in probably 25 years and boy is the new stuff confusing How fly lines are rated and classified sure has changed.
I am looking forward to gaining knowledge in this group and probably meeting some good people.
