AK Trout

Wonderful trout trip last week
Flew out to the Brooks River in Katmai Nat'l Park, Alaska with friends for a little late season trout fishing.
My 15yo son traded in his little 9'9" Meiser "Trouter" for my 12'6" Meiser 3/4/5 a few hours into the first day. I swung the little rod the rest of the day and became relatively proficient with it. Day 2 I rigged up his spey rod and we both swung for the remainder of the trip. His casting is improving fast. Mostly swung egg sucking leeches and smaller sculpin patterns. We spent the vast majority of our time above the falls.
Beautiful place to fish. Crazy number of bears from the time we left the campground to the time we got back each evening - well mannered bears, but they are still bears...
I forgot to say, I owe people on this site for pretty much all my son's gear. He has huge feet and someone gave me a pair of waders for him last year. Bought a used pair of boots and a Z-Axis 5 wt spey here as well. The "old" Simms Guide jacket was a craigslist find - just like brand new.

bocast, Jason and bwodun like this.

I’m envious! That’s a great picture too; I love the bear just doing his thing on the other side of the river.

That sounds like a great trip. Sounds like the gear had good river mojo for you guys.
