This is a perennial question on here, but Princess, or Marquis #7 or #6 would be perfect. I’m thinking used older model Marquis here, but you could go with the the Marquis LWT in the same numbers if you like. A 3 1/8 wide spool perfect would be workable as well, if you want to go a lot more expensive. Sometimes the larger lightweight series reels than the Princess get mentioned - St Aidan and Zenith - but they are IMHO too heavy for any 3 wt. Those are great on 5 and 6 wt spey rods. The Marquis #8/9s can be a nice match for 4 and 5 wt spey rods, BTW.

There are a lot of old Princesses and Marquis reels out there, but check out the ones from the UK on eBay if you can’t find anything quickly.

I use an old Sage 508 on my 11’ 4/5 Meiser that balances beautifully,, so the Marquis 6 or 7 would be my vote as well. And, of course, a 506 or 508 if you can find one - mine aren’t for sale!

I have a Princess on my ACR 1173, which is the lightest I would go. On my Meiser 1264, I like it with my old Nautilus CF 8.

I use a Sage 506 on my ACR Nova 2 3wt and it seems perfect.

Mike,

I found the Marquis 7 a bit light and wanting more capacity when fitted to my Meiser 12'6 35 Highlander. The 8/9 Marquis was just right. Slightly more capacity and better balance. The 7 might be fine for your shorter, lighter rod.

I also tried my 3-5/8 perfect on my 4114 and it worked just fine. It is a new model perfect and not sure how much your 3wt weighs, but my guess is that it would work well just like the one on the ACR. I ended up keeping the perfect on its original rod because I have an Abel classic on the 4wt, another great reel.

If you are looking for a cheaper option, but still a great clicker, I currently use the JW Young wide drum 3.5” Pridex on my 3 weight. It is really nice. They pop up occasionally for sale on the UK auction site.
