Killer Bug worked where my trout Spey flies were ignored

Fishing over stocked trout, I had no luck today with usual trout Spey flies like Black Ghost variant, buggers, small soft hackles. Tried different sizes and different swings. Tried puffing the flies by gently tossing the rod tip and had a pull or two but no solid hookup. Finally I tied on a #10 Killer Bug made of Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift Oyster wool and copper wire. It was immediately hammered by large trout on the first swing. I'm not sure why it worked so well. I'm still new to trout spey and trying to learn the game ( and loving it). Maybe it looked like fish food.... Home cooking for stockers?? Line was 7wt Rio SHSpey 3D which usually produces very well on my 4wt. 11ft.Trout spey rod.

Used to tie a small burdock bug and had similar success when fishing for recent stalked trout (barbless of course) dark brown in color had the same thought process

I think I fish, in part, because itís an anti-social, bohemian business that, when gone about properly, puts you forever outside the mainstream culture without actually landing you in an institution. ĖJohn Gierach

They work great on wild trout too, it's a Killer and right up there with the woolly bugger.
