Gary LaFontaine

While I may have had a long break from the speys and dees, I have not been entirely idle. I have delved a bit into small dry flies in the style of Gary LaFontaine, and though this might not be the right forum for that sort of flies I want to show them nonetheless ;-)

In order of appearence: Emergent sparkle pupa, Diving water boatman, Mohawk (without the mohawk as pictured on the cover of the book "The dry fly" by Gray LaFontaine).

Then two variations of a fly inspired by LaFontaine. I wanted to do a june beetle imitation, so the last two are attempts of making a LaFontaine style fly - one with closed wings and one with wings expanded.

Glædelig jul!

It is nice to see Lafontaine's flies. I used to run into Gary at times on a few rivers when I lived in Montana. He was a great guy with a tremendous amount of knowledge on caddis flies and trout feeding behavior when it came to caddis flies.

The only thing I'd change, is I'd make the "bag" of antron yarn fibers on the Emergent Sparkle Pupa looser and make sure it goes around and covers the whole dubbed body. Gary make the "bag" of antron very sparse and loose, but always had it goes around and cover the whole dubbed body.
