Trout bums, what reel would you size up with this rod?

I once had the sr 3106. The 8 wt is one of my goto rods for lake and surf fishing abuse. A 4 to 6 oz reel empty, to taste. A princess would be about perfect IMHO. Pretty much anything you might use on a 5-6 wt single hand should be fine.

For me, something rated 6/7 or 7/8 seems to balance the rod well. I've used anything from the Ross CLA 3 to the old SA System 2 7/8. Pretty forgiving rod -

I have the 3106 and have cast several 4106 rods.

They are light weight and most 6-7 wt SH streamer reels work fine.
I do suggest a standard arbor reel, the large arbor designs are too light in weight and do not have the capacity for spey lines.

Try one of the ultra short Skagit heads on the rod,, amazing the size of streamer you can cast.

Regards,
FK

When I had that rod, I used an Islander IR4.

Ross Gunnison 4 at 5.4 oz balances nicely, and has plenty of capacity. Andy
