skagit line

Hi all, I have a wulff ambush line, that is integrated with running line . I've been thinking of maybe cutting the head off and going with a shooting line. Would I be gaining enough to make it worthwhile?

Pros
-Use a mono or miracle braid, gain distance.
-You are able to change heads out. Easier storage.

Cons
-The connection point going through guides. No more smooth leave 2 ft in/out.
-It is no longer a full line, worth less if reselling.
-You don't like the new shooting line, wish you had the old back.

Pick your poison.

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. I think the heads do cast longer but the loops or knots tend to be a annoyance for me. I'll keep the heads for my Spey rods and swinging but I'm going back to integrated lines for the switch rods. Anyway someone (like me) might be interested in trading or buying it.

I have a Wulff Ambush 400 gr TT10F shooting head that I would trade for a integrated head of the same size. What size is your integrated line?

Dave

In my opinion no. Having something a hair bulkier to strip (and do quasi mends) with outweighs the extra distance. That's just me though - I might swing part of a run and strip it here and there, then again at the dangle. I might just strip it the whole way in.

I spent the day fishing my 4wt SR with a 275 head and mono runner. The mono drives me crazy. I've got another rod that I run an Ambush on and I dig it. I think I get pretty good distance out of it too, truth be told.

thank guys

guess i'll leave well enough alone then! thanks for voicing your opinions!
sorry Dave, wouldn't be what you would want anyways. this Ambush is only 215 gr., I used it on my s/h 5wt. then converted it to a d/h. but,,,, another question if I may,, if I wanted to make a scandi head for this rod, would a d/t line cut back to 2.5-3 times the rod length, and balanced to 20-25 % less than the wt. of the Ambush head wt., work for me? that was the main reason I thought about cutting off the running line in the first place.

No worries. I think you are making the right choice.
