New Private message Banners

Hi, I am noticing the above when I log in. Although to the seasoned these banners causes lots of virus, malicious ware problems, is there anyway to have these Google ads removed from showing up in the future?

Question PM banners???

I too am wondering about this...has the pm function been changed somehow? Is this just another pop-up for gmail, etc? Are we supposed to download something else to now view our pm? Hopefully not, as that seems an easy route to viruses? New Admin- lets keep this simple, ok!!!

Thanks-I guess

Tom

Not seeing any banners or Google ads...

Try using either Firefox or Chrome browser, and get the Adblock extension.

If you're like some (but unlike me), and don't like the idea of blocking ads, you can choose to only block ads that you select. But in any case, I have Chrome with the Adblock Plus extension (go to chrome.google.com and search for the extension name), and I am not seeing the banner or ad that you are referring to.

Edit: Actually, now that I've disabled Adblock (and Ghostery), I'm still not seeing the banner you're referring to, so maybe my suggestion won't solve the issue.

The little popup that says you have a private message? This is a default in the forum software that you can change in your user CP. I can do it manually for you.

Can you post a screen cap of this pop up you are seeing? I just looked up what I thought you where talking about and its already turned off on your account. I would like to help you but I would need to be able to replicate the issue so I can address it.

If you can get us the URL of the Ad we can have it blocked from the forum. I'll try roaming around the forum and see if I can get it as well.

Thank you for blocking.

We often come to this forum to run away from the many hazards of life; some living (looking behind me she is not reading over my shoulder), some virtual.

More Private Message

I logged out using the latest Firefox browser just to see what happens and saw this at the homepage, top banner. Guess the problems are still there.

I think this is the link location (right click top corner): https://www.google.com/url?ct=abg&q=...nOp18CmbHPGryg

Bad news... no real opting out of this spamarama...

I have just learned from a member of the Geek Squad, our local computer fixit shop, that the ads and fake PMs are unavoidable since they are connected to Speypages. Damn.
