Friend opened up Speypages and My name was logged in

Hi, it was brought to my attention from a friend that when he logged on his computer to get on to Speypages he was greeted with the opening page thanking him for logging in with my username. (We do not share any computers or electronic devices). He logged out of my username and notified me of the occurrence.

Any ideas what is going on? I am not very tech savvy.

Thanks.

Addendum: I opened up Speypages on my work computer and it opens under my profile...I log out, close the tab, reopen the tab and it still opens up under my profile.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Adrian,
Sometimes I log out of Speypages and come back later to check out SP and it will appear that I am still logged in. However, when I hit todays posts or try to view my PM's I will be logged out. My private messages will not be accessible and I am unable to post things until I log back in. If it looks like you are still logged in after logging out, I would try and access you private messages or check the current posts and you likely will not be logged in. At least that has been my experience thus far. I hope things get resolved for you.

Nate

Thanks for sharing your observance, Nate. After tinkering a bit, I found this to be true like you mentioned. I attempted to post and it stated that I wasn't logged in.

I am still befuddled as to why my friend logged on and my name was the open profile on his computer...

Cheers

Adrian,

I also see your your name and it appears that I am logged in as you when I visit the site (I only log in to post, this is when I visit the site as a guest). I do not think it is really logged in, since if try to do things as you (look at the User CP) it asks me to log in. I would have let you and the site know if I was actually logged in as you, but figured that this is just another very strange site behavior.

PS Maybe next time I tie a fly I will have your skills? I sure hope so!

Off the top of my head I’d say it would normally be a computer issue not a site issue, and the way the operating system and its settings handle remembering your history. Also sites often remember the IP address associated with an account, or the last visit from an account, so that could be the issue. It thinks you are probably that person and puts up your account name, but not the pw. So working as intended. Very useful...most of the time.

Just logging on again in in a different account, once, will usually reset this memory. Sounds like that is what may have happened rather than “logging off” so no security violation.

Recently we had someone in mid thread log on at his friends house and accidentally post something from his friends account. The OS probably autotyped the account and pw. Confused the crap out of us for a bit.

Are you saying neither you nor he have ever logged on to your speypages account on that computer? If that is the case that would be very freaky indeed, but the fact it is someone he knows and not one of the many random accounts is certainly suspicious.

Botsari, Clearhead...thanks for the response.

Clearhead, very strange indeed. Although it doesn't seem that you can use my username, it still is a bit unnerving to have my username pop up randomly when people log in to Speypages.

Botsari: as an example above, Clearhead and I have never shared computers...He is the second person to notify me of this anomaly.

Ok then that is definitely weird unless you have a doppelgänger loging on as you in deferent places. Sounds like the website may be using your account name as default or something, like remembering but at random. If it is not actually allowing people to log on then your security is not at issue but it would be damn weird and they should fix it soon as possible.

I know a lot of us, including me, use programs that enter the account info automatically and so never see this stuff but now I’m curious if under the right circumstance I can get your account to pop up on my computer too.

After thought ... The dark side of this is there is also a small chance this is the after effect of a virus that is spreading itself somehow by remotely logging onto your account, or trying. It’s somewhat simplistic of me but seems like if it was entirely innocuous the account name the site would randomly chose would start with an “a” or maybe a “1”. So yeah in my warped brain I certainly can come up with a scenario that is not so good.

Hey guys,

This was due to a caching issue we were having. It should be fixed now. If you're still getting it can you try clearing your cache for the site? If it's still happening after that, can you let us know and we'll get it reported to our techs. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thumbs up

Yeah, it had been happening to me too. I would come for a visit and fshnazn was my new name according to the site. It must be fixed now, because today is the first time I came to log on and it wasn't greeting me as fshnazn.
fshnazn and SPEY_Admin like this.

Jet sleds/boats destroy redds in the spawning grounds with their turbulent jet wash, scouring the bottom and further burying some of the eggs while ejecting the rest into the stream flow to be eaten. To protect fish, these boats must be restricted from the spawning grounds.
