Picture Links?

As of yesterday(feb. 22/19) I no longer see thumbnails for pictures just a link/file name which opens in a full tab. I have had no hardware or software changes on my end and have not changed any settings on the site. Also late afternoon(local time) I kept getting a 502 server error. The error showed up after I noticed the picture thing.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Specs:
Debian Linux Sid/unstable
Chrome 72.0.3626.96 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Hi Dan,

Same experience here. As of late yesterday 21 February 2019, the attached images started showing themselves as clickable links to JPEG, JPG files.

Speypages is the only website where I have experienced this.

Windows 10 version 1809
Opera 64-bit version 58.0.3135.65 (also based on the Chromium engine used by Chrome and soon to form the basis for Microsoft's next web browser)

Would guess that there are issues with one (or more) of the servers as the site strikes me as being slower to load.

-Erik

P.S. The latest version of Windows 10 is a real dawg. Please note the constraint and self-imposed discipline I used in describing in version 1809. For the first time in years, I have had thoughts of going for a Unix-based OS like Linux.

Hello there,

I am experiencing this myself.
I am going to escalate it to the techs.

I went completely Linux almost 15 years ago and have never looked back. Still interact with MS at work an stuff but personally it's Linux all the way. The only draw back I see is too many choices.

Ed, here's a link to a thread that is happening within another sub-forum here : https://www.speypages.com/speyclave/...64-photos.html

Not sure if there were any recent data migrations or updates ... ??
The thumbnail issue started about two weeks ago. I thought it was just issues I was having with my own laptop (Google Chrome browser), but apparently I'm joining the crowd ...

Your help in this would be greatly appreciated

Ed: More pictures are now showing on the page but a bunch are not.

Any explanation as to what is going on?

Incidentally, and perhaps coincidentally, the site is slow to load.

It's noted as fixed on our end. Can you clear cache and cookies and check again? Provide screenshots and page links if possible.

OK, cleared cache and cookies and checked a few links with pics and everything seems to work fine.

JB: This morning the site is noticeably faster than it was yesterday evening. All the pictures have been restored.

Too bad, there was no explanation. Oh well.

P.S. I clear the cache on a regular basis and delete specific cookies on a frequent basis.

In this instance, deleting cookies was not necessary and certainly not something I would recommend others do. Most would 'clear the cache' by simply closing their web browsers.

Two separate issues best we can figure. "Best Guess" is how it goes a lot of the time, as it's hard to pinpoint a cause for an effect and it frequently doesn't help even if you do, as it was something that wasn't going to be repeated.

In this case, the speed issues were caused by a change in site security that was draining memory at an alarming rate and causing the slowness. For the images, we don't know what caused them to turn to links. For that, it was easier to fix and leave it a mystery. If it happens again, we'll start digging for an underlying cause

Kevin,

I host pictures on my web service site. They still do not show up in a posting. See the following show-and-tell thread. Has always worked until lately.

Thanks,

Jerry

Your website does not have an SSL cert, therefor the images are blocked on all HTTPS sites with Chrome/Firefox

Therefor, you can either upgrade your site to HTTPS, upload the images directly, or use a HTTPS hosting site like postimages.org

When did this change? I must have missed the announcement.

This is the way I have posted pictures since I have been a member here. Has always worked. Works on other forums just fine.

Images are not a part of my website. They are in space provided by my internet provider, Frontier.com.

I am not going to go back through all of the pictures I have posted on the Spey Pages and move them to some hosting site. The topics will have to remain without the accompanying photos.

Jerry

HTTPS is a security protocol that pretty much all major websites have adopted. Any images hosted on a site that doesn't use HTTPS will not show on a site that is using HTTPS.
