Loss of History on the site

With the Photobucket fiasco there is a ton of site history that has become unusable to members with photos not being available, will this always be the case, is there any hope of a patch to once again host pictures. Tons of great information among the missing.

This is not blaming Spey Admins.Mods but curious if something positive can be done

Thanks in advance

There are apps that you can install on your brouser that will allow the old pictures to show on your device. Just google photobucket patch and you will get links to them.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...flicjjgj?hl=en

this should work for Chrome and there is one for firefox as well. with firefox i just downloaded app once and it seems to work for all forums for me. Some of the pictures still won,t show but think they were deleted from photobucket site.
Hope this helps .

I’ll take a look at the fix. May not work for the platforms I brows the most these days. Plus, if this defeats the reason photobucket did this, which on the surface look to be to make more money, then expect countermeasures at some point.

I lost a lot of saved old charts people have posted with old technical data and the like this way. I have in the past done many cuts and pastes of what I though were the pics themselves and sent them to myself as email. Did this precisely to avoid the loss. Turns out I unknowingly cut and pasted links to photobucket instead.

I don’t know about restoring the past, but in the future people should just upload the pics directly to speypages. If someone posts something of any kind of lasting value to the community perhaps we need to start telling them to repost with a real upload. I know some people say they “can’t” do it. I suspect this means in many cases they don’t know how. But maybe on some platforms like a phone it is impossible or hard. We should just keep the pressure on the site owner to make this easier for everybody, and make it more of a highly recomended practice. I am another one who has learned a lot about older gear, etc online, and now it turns out that when I look stuff up there is a ton of missing info, going back as much as a decade. All because of freakin’ photobucket.

This issue can only be resolved by the image poster on the forums, and Photobucket.

You can work around it (for now, until PB shuts these down) with some plugins.

Chrome - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...flicjjgj?hl=en

FireFox - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...ed-fix/?src=ss

I find that the image quality is greatly reduced when photos are directly attached to posts. I have started using lensdump for image hosting. Also I think Photobucket is getting the hint. They have a new price of 99 bucks to host 300 000 images. They'll be back to free in time
