Trouble Changing Password

I had forgotten my password, and obtained a new via the process. Now I wanted to change the password to something I might remember, and am not able to do so.
The process asks for my current password, and then to enter, and confirm my new password using the required entities. After doing so I receive a message that the site does not recognize my password. What's am I doing wrong?
