Hideous

Is there a way to get rid of the newly appeared thread like tool at the start of each thread?

It's a new plug-in .... I take it that you don't like it

Weird. Actually until it was mentioned, while I was psychological aware of it, I never looked at it or knew what it was...guess I have trained my mind to ignore adds and I must have assumed it was one. I hope I don't also start ignoring trucks coming down the street as I cross thinking they really have noting to do with me.

The thread rating option was always there in the thread toolbar, just smaller and more inconspicuous.
Some members were using it often and there are many threads rated already, so this plugin was added ....

Maybe a bit (a lot) smaller? It looks like a poll at the top of every thread or an ad.

I didn't think the thread rating was that important.

ETA I have used the thread rating in the past.

I agree .... it's a little (a lot) big.
However, we weren't sure how big it was going to be either. I can talk to the techies to see if they can shrink it a little (a lot), since many of the members here like the rating idea. That's the only idea behind this new plug-in and not to make the rating the showcase for each thread. This plug-in has more options and such .... never know until you try .....

What about putting the rating thing below the last comment, instead of above the actual content of the post. You're asking us to rate the thread, but we can't rate something we haven't read yet. And in order to read it, we need to scroll down the page, likely reading the comments as well as the OP (i.e. the whole "thread"). Then in order to rate it we now have to scroll back up to the top.
Why not solve two problems: move the rating thing down so it's less obtrusive to those of us who don't use it (and also to those who do), and also so it's better-placed for the convenience of those who want to use it to rate the tread they just read through.

The IT support people gave the thumbs down on changing the size ... can't be done. Not sure if this plug-in will allow moving the tool bar to the bottom either ... ??

The rating feature has always been in the thread tool bar, maybe some just never noticed it and other members did based on past rated threads. This up-grade plug-in had some cool features for future expansion ... problem is it seems to be too ugly and is VERY NOTICEABLE

Based on the feed back so far ... I think this new Plug-In is going bye-bye

The new poll

Why should we care about rating a post?

No reason at all ... it was a tool that has been here for years on the Speypages and part of the Forum's base platform (vBulletin). It was located in the thread tool bar and was fairly inconspicuous, hence why for some members this is a brand new feature. Some users have been using it for years, hence why you will see some threads with star ratings in the sub-Forum pages. Some members use it when utilizing the search function for a particular topic, they read the rated threads first and then move on to other threads. It's just a tool used by some members, that's all. This particular Plug-In has more features than the old Plug-In, so we asked to try it out. Not knowing that it would be so different in the way it displayed or where it displayed. Mistakes happen I guess, but never know until you try, right ??

We have already sent a note to the IT guys to un-plug this new plug-in, hopefully it won't take too much longer.
Sorry for any inconvenience or sore eyes this feature may have caused

Really just another means of member interaction. Can serve to reassure a poster that it's an appreciated post...or otherwise potentially. Can also serve to direct viewers to a thread that many have found to be especially helpful. As Mike has eluded to, we're working on either reverting back to what was there or removal altogether. We wanted to see how it would work out and we've quickly realized it's not what we or the members are looking for. The enhancement to it was at the request of Mike and I. Wasn't imposed by the forum ownership. They very willingly offered to assist with the tweak and based on the feedback and the visual end result we want it to disappear.

i was pretty confused as to what you guys were talking about. You don't really need to use the rating function if you don't want to.
