Attention - Password and Security Update

Hey all,

Over the next few days we will be implementing some changes to our forum password strength and password expiration policies. To make sure you continue having the best experience possible on the community, we regularly monitor the site and the Internet to keep everyone's account information safe. We've recently become aware of a potential risk to some accounts coming from outside of this community. Just to be safe, we are implementing the following changes to improve security even further:

1) We are asking everyone to change their passwords (and will force a one time reset). Along with every user on the forum, new passwords will need to be more complex, and can't be simple words (sorry, you can't have "fluffy" as your password anymore!). Please use a password unique to this community. Reusing passwords can expose your account indirectly when other websites (Twitter, Linkedin, Badoo, etc) are compromised; and

2) Your passwords will expire on a 365 day basis. When you login on the 366th day, you will have to change it.

We'll also be sending out an email to users to let them know about the changes, in upcoming weeks.

Thanks all,

Helena

Just as a heads up friends,
When the notification comes, you should switch over to the "Full" version of the Forum or else the page does not progress to save the changes.
I usually run the "Classic" style, but ran into issues doing the switch over. The Forum let me change over to "Full" version and I was able to enter in all the info again and save the changes.

Mike,

I just checked and see my email address is out of date. I tried to change it to my current one but it won't permit the change. (I didn't try to reset my password yet.)

What should I do next?

Hello Mike, how do I switch over to the "full" version of the webpage? I am not having any luck re-setting my email so far.

PW: Reset problems

I'll make it short; just cut and paste the new password you've been assigned because the window to input the data won't display (security) what is actually being input and it is far more difficut to transpose it and get it correct. This has nothing to do with which site version is being used.

I had trouble logging in with the new password sent in email in the login on the top right hand corner. I input my userid and the pasted password from the email and no dice.
I then clicked on the change password link in the email, which brought me to a different login screen whih did work when I pasted the password. I was then able to change my password to one of my choice, but fell under the rules for a secure password.
Cheers,

Just like every other place where you have to use a password. They (and yes Spey Pages) are making their password requirements so complex that nobody can possibly remember them.

Seems like there's always a problem getting AOL to take the "change password" link. Some forums offer an alternative for AOL users. I carefully typed in the link, double checked it and thankfully it worked.

If we're going to have to change pass words every year some consideration might be given to the difficulty for AOL users.

Thanks

Why do I need a massively long complicated password?

I don't have my banking details on here, and any secret military information I once knew is 30 years out of date (& I don't keep it here either).

So now I have a new password I can't remember which I have to write down somewhere - that's a huge leap forward in my personal security I'm sure.......

Not all "progress" is an advance, if you twist 180 degrees you go backwards.

Please forgive the rantings of a technophobic Luddite, but I find that venting helps.

Right, I'm off to a darkened room now to control my breathing whilst listening to whale noises & looking at a burning candle chanting "Ommm, Ommm, Ommm............".

Regards, Tyke.
