Rad! This is something a few friends of mine were able to witness and partake in firsthand. They had heard about a crew filming GTs eating birds before their trip. It just so happened that some cargo container full of flip-flops had capsized and littered the beach with debris. My buddies decide to tie a "bird fly" in hand with the footwear and get a surface attack on film...they mentioned to me that it was extreme tying in hand and ultimate surface attack crack! Fun footage.

Cheers to surface attacks!

No doubt some fly shops will probably start selling old worn out flip flops (for exorbitant prices) as “tying materials”.

I read somewhere about a large Chinook was found to have eaten 5 American Dippers (aka Water Ouzels). Those obligingly swim to the bottom hunting insects. They are in my top 10 favorite birds for sure - the are in the wren family, like robins. They have no webbed feet but the “swim” underwater with their wings and sometime use their feet in the riverbottom. Anyway, that video kind of gives a guy ideas for a new weighted salmon fly.

Impressive stuff! I've seen dorado come out of the water chasing trolled dusters, but never for a bird or fly or flip flop.
