Damsels In Distress

Background on this video:

My wife and I were fishing with friend/guide Dean Whaanga in New Zealand when a combination of bad weather and good timing resulted in a fish giving us the experience of a lifetime. I crawled on my stomach with my camera to the water’s edge, hit record, and watched what was one of the coolest moments I have ever witnessed.

Simon Perkins @ Orvis

Enjoy!!

I'll never become a perfect fisher before I die, and that's why I love to fish!

I'd pay money if I could have this video on loop as a screen saver on my PC! Very nice.

Very stirring video J.James Got to experience fishing to still water rainbows last month at the local lake, which were keyed in to damsel flies, I managed to intercept a cruiser with a floated offering which was great but to top it off I came across a nice fish cruising at rod length from the bank, chasing and catching prey mid air, it had repeatedly refused ambushing floated presentations so I waited patiently for it on it's beat, dangled my imitation a few inches above the water in it's path....as soon as it saw my offering I slowly moved it at the same pace the fish was at, this had the desired effect... a porpoising take clean out of the water.... I can't remember how or what I did to set the hook as I was totally astounded at what had just happened.... a solid battle ensued and a hatchery fish of about 4lb was released after some nice ladies snapped a quick pic for me. One of this summers moments for sure

Great picture!

Love the grin! Thanks for posting. My sweetheart loves Australia and has been before. Her bestie gal pal lives there. She is very supportive of my two hand Rod addiction. So there's hope we might share the water yet amigo!
