Manfred Ragus ~ Gaula Salmon

There are two versions of this video, one is silent and one is narrated

I chose the narrated but the silent one is just as good in its own way

Clearly has the mark of a seasoned and experienced angler. Sounds like good company on the water

Enjoy!

Manfred is the former owner of the Norwegian Flyfishers Club, has caught a LOT of salmon in his time, and is a very nice fellow. He still spends a good bit of the season on the Gaula, and it's always a pleasure to see and talk with him.

Salmoncane, thank you for sharing that. If you speak with him, please tell him his videos are highly enjoyed. I'd also compliment his Helios 15' Rod!

It's my dream destination to be sure

That was excellent. I would never have conceived of the idea of - what did he say, Asserting mental dominance...- and leading the fish to a better area to do battle.

That was why I posted the narrated version as well as to provide some context

The silent version is pretty damn exciting too

Brilliant the way he plays--or is it "calms"--that fish. Very fine narration. Thanks for posting.

Although I was disappointed of the lack of yelled profanities, fist pumps, gangster poses and hard base music ... I enjoyed the video

Seriously, Manfred is a true gentleman of the sport !! I have seen this video many times in my Youtube searches for fishing Norway. I enjoy it each and every time !! Thanks for posting it

Yeah, and where was the slo-mo of the heroic fisherman walking to the river? At the very least he could have started with the shot of a digital alarm clock blinking "4:30 A.M".

The biggest Norwegian salmon rarely wake up before noon. Manfred knows...

Great video from a great river. Beautiful.

My sensitive psyche thanks him for the lack of a death metal soundtrack, as well as for foregoing the obligatory GoPro highway montage! I have heard about the "walk the puppy" strategy for landing a big fish like this but it is wonderful to see it done and especially to hear the running commentary. Hopefully I will get a chance to try it myself at some point.

Lovely video, and I agree with playing a little more gently. This one almost exactly the same weight (29.5). Obvious weight when hooked, plus suspected correctly it was a buck the way he fought. 2015, Cascapedia. 13'4" 7 wt Burkie.
