Steelhead woes...

Welp, I made another one off the ol' iPhone. This time I just timelapsed it to show that a little effort is needed. As you can tell, I botched it at the end. The fish grabbed so hard I imagined the muddler got bent immediately? Went in to tail it once and it wasn't ready, so maybe I got nervous and reeled in a little much the second time, tripped up and lost him. We learn from our mistakes though. Regardless, I was still happy and feel lucky every time I get to see or connect with one of these special fish!

Dude!

I LOVE the realism in your video, and although its quick and short, it captures alot of the real essence of a day's experience. The quick shots of tying, rigging, hiking, wet flies, bent hooks, stumbling and loosing fish. And the interior of your fish-mobile with all the stickers: just too real!

Keep at it and share back with us often!

You got the best of that beautiful fish, even if you didn't get it to hand.

Great fly grab, great fight, quick-release, and you didn't get your hands messy!

Thanks for sharing!

That was fun to watch. Thanks for putting it on speypages. Was that fly skated, or grease-line style? Really nice at any rate!

Thank you! The fly was skated with a riffle hitch underneath to pull the head up a little. The fish took it after I gave it a couple twitches by the honey pot. I don't chug flies, but have seen some impressive NU takes in doing so. My thoughts on chugging is that an aggressive fish will always take, but it may put down a more timid fish. The "twitch" just adds a little movement here and there that I think they like, but what do I know? I tie the muddlers on size 6 Daiichi 2110 bomber hooks, and have done fairly well with them until this day... Just one of those fish not meant to be touched I guess.

Cheers!

I believe the lack of profanities and basic fits is due to the camera rolling.

I felt your exact pain back in august in nz.

cheers for that,
that was very well done,

Good Stuff.

A gentleman recently claimed to having never ever loosing single steelhead. He has landed every single one has has ver hooked into and I think he is missing a big part of what steelhead angling is all bout.
