Smile My Hero Steve Godshall ! ! !

I sent a Spey rod to Steve for repair, the rod tip was broken and not only did Steve repair the broken tip but he also made a a new tip to match the rod all based on our original price for repair. Because I'm very much a novice at Spey fishing which Steve soon discovered during our many discussions he guided me in my choices of lines I should try and techniques best suited to me and my rod and reel. This man is so willing to share his wealth of knowledge and is as honest as the day is long. Just wanted to share this with all my brothers and sisters who love Spey fishing as I do.

Thumbs up Amazing man.

Couldn't agree with you more. And the best part is one of his lines won't cost you a penny more than something off the shelf.

Not trying to be a jerk or anything (I swear by Steve as well!) but is there a video of him fixing the rod or something? Maybe this was posted in the wrong section?

Need the line back to put same on the Glass 11' switch that Steve built for me. Specific cut line for a custom built rod.

For those of you who didn't know, Steve's a heck of a rod builder. Had to laugh, thought just went through my mind. In the line packet (description of the line, et. al.) he'd referenced the number "88." Referencing the German WW2 cannon? Would be appropriate; I can easily hit 80' with this short rod/line.

There really is no reason to buy an off the shelf line when we have Steve Godshall. I was confused on the line to get for my new Rainshadow 7wt switch rod. I was pointed to Steve. I told him what I had and what I type of fishing I was wanting to do with this rod(turns out he designed this blank for Batson). He made me a custom line and it was shipped to my door all the way over here on the east coast in 2 days for less than a store bought line. I would venture to say there is not a rod out there that he does not have a line recipe for.

got to hand it to steve godshall! called him due to feedback on this forum. told him what i had. answered his probing questions. got my rig from him and voila! i now have to absolutely strip out much backing for my casts, such as they are(rank beginner). the line he set me up with is wonderfully matched to the outfit i have. gotta love it when you get the right deal first shot out of the box, so glad i paid attention and finally didn't try to cut corners like i often do.
i have an angler's roost 11', 5/6 wt. blank i built with one of his 338 grain heads and running line.

Thumbs up When it comes to fly lines, Steve is Pure Magic.

Short drive from me and he has books/sheets of paper for rods he's examined. Just needs to know the Caster and you have a 'One for one' spey line. Just for the rod and the caster.

Repeating myself: "Pure Magic."

What you need is a long conversation (from there on he has you 'nailed') with Steve about what rod, etc., you're using.

When it comes to fly lines, Steve is Pure Magic.

Hi, I have to agree with Fred, I purchased 2 full lines from Steve awhile back and I love them, bought the Skandit lines for my Beulah 7/8 Switch and one for my Loop Green 12'-4" 8 weight spey rod. After discussing with Steve what I use on my Loop I ordered my line with 120'-0" of running line with a 28 foot head and I use 15 foot & 18 foot tips. Well I was playing with it on Thursday where I had some large water to fish and also had a little wind on my back, I tried to see how much line I could put out and I actually got down to where my backing was showing on my Speyco Skagit reel, so I figured at least 100'-0" of running line, 28 foot head and 18 foot tip, so close to 150'-0", would never had been able to do this with any other line I have ever tried. I'm sold on Steve's lines and hope to order some more this winter, price is right too.
