Fiberglass Spey - Farlow , Bruce & Walker

Attached two videos of fiberglass spey/switch rod in action.

Despite they were built on vintage fiberglass blanks and old tapers. Those rods are surprisingly smooth and fun to fish. I always think fiberglass is a great tool for two handed casting, they are smooth and durable. Hope one day there will be more modern manufacturers make them.
1) Farlow Farlite 12' 7/8 (If you know the history of this rod, please give me a headsup, thanks!)

2) Bruce & Walker 10'6 7
Converted from single handed 7 weight salmon rod.

BTW, I contacted CTS a while back, they are making 12' fiberglass blanks now.

Just watched the videos. Good stuff as always. That Farlow rod looks like a real blast. I've never seen one before so hopefully someone will chime in with some info on them. Thanks for posting.

Thanks T, glad to hear this!
The CTS single handed fiberglass material are really really nice. I have a chance to cast their new model Quartz and the recovery rate and responsiveness are truly impressive! Stronger tip than traditional fiberglass action, yet, retain the distinct full flex ,through bend characteristic that fiberglass material championing. I think I am going to place the order very soon. I will let you know how it goes... In addition, I know there are many people on this forum are searching for bamboo like action.. Now those fiberglass materials are relative cheap, durable (though a bit heavy), they does fish like the bamboo.

For the side niote, I learned when Jim Green still working for Fenwick, there was one fiberglass model FF1200-3 . 12' 3 piece 11-12 weight. http://fiberglass-fly-rods.pbworks.c...182977/Fenwick I guess it will fit modern shooting head system well. If someone get lucky to have one. I would love to hear how it cast...

Thanks for the kind words, T & Michael. much appreciated.
Mark

Bless Steve Gotshall!

Don't know where he came up with them, but he got his hands on several three piece 11' glass blanks that (no markings) appear to be a 6/7. Steve made one of those into a switch rod.

Lined with one of his 29'6" 423 grain lines and it just zips! Tool has become one of my 'go to' rods for summer run fishing. One of the beauties of this short rod, as odd as it may seem, is casts 'short' very well.
