He definitely makes it look easy. He said he practiced an hour every night after work for three years to improve on his casting on a video I saw.

I do like that concept two lines on two reels and your done. What a caster! I really liked a couple of shows he did with Greg on Seasons on the Fly, his single hand casting is just as amazing.

In his book on casting Falkus said an extra spool for another line was a false economy. His advice was to have another complete outfit. I'll let you do the math.

Were the episodes with Frimor taken down? I don't see anything on the website.

Does the underhand style of casting that Klaus uses work better with a specific rod action (fast or deep-loading, etc)? Or can that style be used with any rod?

I sure like it.

Any rod action rod can be used for short shooting head Spey casting but a tip action rod is perhaps bit lighter to cast and whole cast efficiency comes better. When line head is short and light the rod Moment of Inertia has bigger role to rod bend and the tip of tip action rod is lighter and MOI comes lighter. The heavier tip of a full action rod accelerates slower and tends to increase rod bend and when rod is stopped early and high it does not straighten fully before the line loop already has began to form and line is released so its efficiency seems to come lower.

Hi Bob, I prefer stiffer-ish rods, with a progressive action such as Deathstar, Meiser Highlander classic, ARE IM8 Euro style spey rods verses a real soft rod like a Dredger or Echo Dec Hogan etc. but that is just my personal preference. I think the stiffer rods make it easier with this style.

I love it! Totally see the merits in Scandis and triple density Scandis!!

But........really heavy wind, and big nasty flies, nothing beats a SKagit FIST head! I mean nuttin’

Also, the SKagit fist rules out the hinge effect he mentioned. And you can cast it just like he was doing

I love scandi lines, don’t get me wrong! And casting a scandi with a single Spey and the underhand cast is truly effortless and a joy. But after watching Brian Niska snake roll and single Spey skagits half way across the Skeena, I’m having a hard time figuring out what Skagit lines don’t excel at.

You make known to me the path of life;
in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
