My Son Casting

I recently picked up some better camera equipment and made a blog post of my boy doing some Spey casting with a single hand rod. He has to use both hands but unless its a 3 weight, so do I. See it here at my blog. It's awesome watching my kid Spey casting and swinging flies.

Thank you Bob, I appreciate it a bunch. Maybe we will run into you on the Rogue some day. I will be the guy following my kid around with a camera. Hopefully I'll get a chance to actually fish soon! But its still a blast videoing my friends and especially my boy.

That's nice to see - & the boy's covering the water well!

If it's Fuji style real seat on the single handed then one dodge I have used in the past is to jam a used plastic cased shotgun shell on it & tape it in position with electrical tape - this extends the reel seat & provides a short lower "handle" which is more comfortable than the exposed threads of the reel seat.

On most 10 footers a 12 bore cartridge fits, but if the rod is smaller maybe a 16 or 20 bore will be a better fit.

Regards, Tyke.

Tim -

I'll be on the D (Macks to Heritage) in August. If you stop by, there's a guaranteed single malt whisky waiting!

I like the way you think Tyke, been racking my brain for a quick fix, sounds like a plan. Fortunately Charlie has a 20 gauge, might just be the ticket. Thanks.

Never try to teach wife 2.0 how to cast a spey rod. Disazster ....

Rich Henry, Chetco river, huge man with his arms around my red head wife."Feel the rod, close your eyes feel."

He's humming classical music in her ear. Me? Roll a smoke and doggie dog and I would take a walk. Something ... just so, she hugged him tight and I made them dinner.

The cool part for me about watching this video is that Charlie, my son, has never purposely sat down to watch a casting video to learn how to spey cast or tried to emulate anybodies style. It's all him and what he has learned fishing and casting together. My first thought, was, man, he looks like Ed Ward. But I don't think he knows who Ed Ward is or any of the casters I have studied. He's just a kid who wants to stick a fish. Thanks for indulging me.
