How many two handers do you own?

the "rod count" thread comes around every so often. Here it is again. Mr Tip's tackle-ho thread got me wondering about you addicts out there. So let's have at it.

How many two handers do you own?

This time we've got a poll, too, to provide anonymity for those who may have financial officers watching over their shoulder

Consider all two handed fly rods, for whatever types of two-handed casts, in all environments.

4 and counting

sage 9150 green
sage 9140 green
sage 7136 old brown
GLoomis 13' 5/6 wt - sweet little skagit stick built on an old IM6 gear blank

I'd love to get my hands on Meiser's 15' 7/8 but my wife would kill me. I need to concentrate on reels now!

On another thread FredaEvans has just called me a "tackle-tart"!! So I feel I need to disabuse him! So here goes:

First my new 'best rod I have ever owned" Meiser MKS 15'. 8/9/10 It is a killer rod in every way.
Close behind is another Meiser - bought from the classifieds here - this one is a Highlander 15' -7/8/9. This for all big river floating line work. Suspect I would prefer this in MKS format.

Then 5 CND rods,
16'1" Solstice - truly a brilliant rod but the leverage of that extra foot tells on my tendonitis ruined elbows.
x2 Salar Specialists - brilliant rods
x2 Steelhead Specialists- ditto-

Winston DBF 15' 8/9 goes like a train with a heavier Carron, but too heavy for my elbows. not used now and no one will give me a decent offer on it!!!

14' & 16' Clan (older models but real spey rods) used mainly as lenders or when on really rough terrain.

14' Anderson blue prototype. NO other rod can shoot line like this . Grips - top and lower are too short for me, but this may not be so on production rods.
Again came from your classifieds.

14'3" 8/9/10 Burkheimer....at present 'sick' and waiting for a new tip...will it EVER be ready? Nice all rounder.
11'5" 4 pce. Burkheimer. Even with old Wulff TT 8/9 it performs miracles at up to 90' + leader. Trying to find the ideal line, but lighter Spey lines are like chicken's teeth here in the UK. Any ideas from other owners? Oh yes...another classifieds find)

And that is it Fred!!...exactly 12 rods.. But, to be honest there are others - in fact quite a few - lurking in various places ready to spring out at me and shout thet they really do want a day on the river! Some of them are bamboo!!!!

Re How many rods

Curently 8.I made the uninformed decision when starting to find a rod that would cast for me before I knew how to cast[and I still don't] Just think I could have had 3 Meisers in 2 of their series instead of the rods I have.

MY rule seems to be to "READ THE INSTRUCTIONS" after I have already screwed up.Same with the reels but that is getting sorted out.

Please take lessons early.

TFO 12'6" 6 wt, my starter rod
was an awful rod at first, but somehow it got better... once I learned to cast...actually a decent rod for the money.
10'6" Beulah switcher 4/5
12'6" Deer Creek 5/6
13' Deer Creek 7/8 (love the MKS)
13' Meiser Custom 5/6/7 Hybrid, awesome dryliner and scando rod
15' Deer Creek 8/9 (what can I say? God what a great stick )
recently acquired: Sage 9140-4 G III brownie

yup, there's some redundancy in this lineup, but that's where it is right now.
a few light summer sticks, a good skagit rod, a big water stick, I have most of the bases covered for me.
I keep meaning to buy something besides Deer Creeks, but I love the tapers, the price, the warranty...so why?

I don't dare toput the number up here, as my wife looks at this site too. She might find out I've spent way too much money on this sport.

As far as two-handed flyrods go, I now have 3 of them. However, I consider the two-handed option to be just as applicable to spinning, casting and surf tackle as it is to flyrods. My success with two-handed spinning and baitcasting rods on big rivers is what got me into speycasting.

Update

Further to my February post above, my S/H David Norwich rod was a good buy !
I used it for a week on the Dee in March & it handled a Rio Accelerator #10/11 multi tip very well - I used the type 3 & type 6 tips during the week & it achieved a very easy 36 to 38 yards without me having to be too precise about timing [which is handy when you're feeling a bit banjaxed at the end of a long day]. It plays a fish nicely too - I was lucky enough to land 3 springers + 1 lost at the net, & a number of kelts, & it was very smooth & progressive with a fish on.
All considered, for the bargain price I paid, it was a 'steal' & justified adding one more to the heap in the corner of the tackle room - although some may consider [unfairly I think] that 17 is too big a heap; however this is usually the view taken by my fishing pals' wives who justify 40 odd pairs of shoes & matching handbags as 'essential'.
''& that concludes the case for the defence your honour...''

Regards, Tyke.

CND 7/8/9 black spey
Sage 9140 traditional

Just two but only been fishing the two handers for a year now. Love both rods - the sage is the smoothest rod I've ever casted. CND is a beauty!!!

Looking for a sweet summer rod for northern BC. Haha, does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks
