DTX G2 Spey lines

Scott Mackenzie released his G2 Spey lines a little while ago and I've just had my first try using the 64' 10/11 version.

The lines use Airflo's Ridge technology throughout for superior shoot. The lines have a green front end of about 15', with a white belly, on to a green rear taper and running line.

The line is designed to be cast with the colour change out of the guides. The white belly ends at about 60' which provides a visual reference as to where to place the line at the tiptop for the best casting results. The rear taper is not long so advanced casters will have no difficulty casting with a few feet of overhang. Cast this way on a 15' rod, means there'll be about the same amount of line out of the guides compared to a 75' line that is cast with the top hand at the colour change.

The lines are available in a 51' - 8/9, 56' - 9/10 and 10/11s in both 56' and 64'. The 10/11 is also available as a multi-tip.

Being made by Airflo out of polyurethane, they weld very easily. So turning the floaters into tips lines will be a piece of cake for anyone with a welding kit.

The lines are available online in the U.S. from Tolt River Anglers (Jack Cook) and in Canada from Flymart.ca (Scott Currie).

Peter.Are the new Mackenzie shooting head lines made by Airflo.I believe the floaters are red in colour.

I'd like to hear more about the shooting heads as well.

Yes the shooting heads are made by Airflo, and as you said, they are red. While made by Airflo, they're not simply a repackaging job of the Airflo Compact Scandi. The tapers are a DTX design with Scott working in collaboration very experienced Scandinavian fishermen to get the design right.

When I measure a DTX head against a comparable Airflo Compact Scandi, the DTX head is longer, has a thicker tip, yet it has a much longer taper. The taper is more gradual on the DTX head vs. the rapid ramp up of the taper on the Airflo. Scott was trying to achieve a balance between turnover of polys and weighted flies (thicker tip) vs. distance plus delicacy in glassy pools (longer taper). Both designs produce great shooting heads, so it's a matter of choosing the design that best fits how we fish.

Forgot to mention that DTX heads are looped at both ends and have a short rear taper.
