As another michigan 2hander has posted--whats a floating line? I fish in michigan. However I believe he is part of the PT-DDC crowd. Not sure just speculation there..

Bout 16 yrs ago J Lee lived in sw mich(man who got me started w/a twohander). Back then he was the only example to learn from.
Long line -long leader-splitshot for winter fish..

MY HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED! Except when its brutally cold I stilll fish that way quite often.

Started w/ a windcutter-pretip line- chopped it back and ran LC-13 on the end. Helped to get the job done - BUT - still not what I was looking for..
Internet came along--skagit system came along--and I went along for the ride.

My casting is effortless now--catch ratio went up--and I am a happy camper to have learned of this from the speypages..

Too many try to make fishing more than what it is.. Skagit is a tool, just like the 2handers that it is implimented on.

And the end result for me anyway is more fish on the waters that I spend time on

....right on...just what I was going to say....Skagit is a tool to get a job done under certain conditions.....absolutely right, using the correct tool for the river conditions and the flies being cast!!!!!....And for all of "MY" fishing conditions, long lines are not the correct tool, not by a long way.(pardon the pun)

Cheers,Wild Bill

Ok ! don't know who started the real Skagit casting but dam glad they did !

Now the rest of this hole crazy thread got me thinking of another sport that came along back in the 70s . A bunch of guys who were road bicycle racers wanted to ride there bikes in other places, they developed Mountain bikes! lots of trial and f#%@ ups along the way, and they got abused buy others in the industry. But over time people who were say road bike snobs could no longer fight it, they were here to stay and evolve into something great. And now all those guys who were the ragid, crazy dudes riding bikes on mountains all have there own big bike brands and are stinkin rich !!!!

Ed, you should cash in and make your own brand! I will be your B.C. rep

Oh and about Henrik M I have his DVDs the casting is cool, but fish flapping on the rocks and going back belly up,, not so cool.

my 2cents .

I'm not talking about nymphing for steelhead I'm talking about albertans an their inbred desire to fish WORMS under BOBBERS. I realize they can't help it, hell, I even tried it once, but I'll be forgiven for that. You can re-brand it from the outside, but if you strip the hide off that crittur, she'll read the original brand on the inside. Metaphor? Not really.

And I'm not a 'skagiteer' ... I think that term is reserved for the men who created the style. Nor am I a rookie, nor am I a baby.

Richard,
there have been guys spey casting on the bow since the early ninety's. Guys like Tony C, Peter K, and others...only in the last few years has it been shown more, due to the internet. These guys just don't advertise it

Will somebody please kill this thread. It has gone on way to long. Its starting to read like some of the local threads around here.Great topic that has spiraled into a thoughtless pissing match.Just a thought.

you are correct , what i was trying to put across was it has only been in the last few years that it has taken off , in 1989 i seen a guy speying on the bow , i think he was mostly just putting in time for salmon and steelhead

even now it's still not huge , it's getting bigger and bigger as each year passes
