In proportion to line out
For me the stick relates to how much line I want to fish. If I'm wading or want to fish far off, the longer rod makes the job easier. With the plan to fish less line I can fish less rod. These days much of my fishing is on bigger rivers but from a boat, and I'm fishing shorter rods unless conditions better fit the longer presentation. Most of what I'm fishing is 12.5' Scandi and Skagit.
