Interesting stuff Yuhiuna!! I tried a scandi compact of 300 gr. on a Beulah 11'6"-6/7 which I normally throw a 390 scandi on and not only did it work but I think I found a new favorite combo. Amazing how the fly feels swinging with the lighter line, so much more sensitive. Not only single speys and snake rolls but even water loaded casts flew out with finesse and power.

Cool, I bet it is a nice feel to find your favorite line - rod combination! I have several very similar experiences too and really love the process of experimenting!

The idea of shooting this video is very simple, just share the experimenting idea and the fun we have on the riverside.

I probably have to put this up front that those are the line combinations that fit "us" well... not necessary work for everyone, so "experimenting" is the key words. So far I have found the Scandi heads casting, in general, has a great range of line weight window on the rods we have tested. I think this is due to the triangle taper of the head- shape, it facilitate the feel on caster's hands. Good timing and good load. One of the outstanding line we have tested is the Airflo Rage line. The extra heavy butt end enhance the feel of rod load so much, it also punch through the wind and turn over a relative big dry well. In addition, this line is extremely light feel to cast as you can see in the video, it general a tremendous line speed compare to its heavy companions. The telephone pole is the notorious T&T 1610.

On the side note, light line casting, in general, work very well on small flies, but not Big flies (e.g. payload concept)... so... if you are targeting big fish on smaller flies (particular the classic type), this is a relax way to go IMO. Our system and idea here is very simple, if you can get away with light line, why use heavy line? Mark
