Thats some good casting right there, small angle change for him but he should come to Speyorama.

Now for a clip of the `Big Dawg` Gerard Downey throwing down 231ft 8.7inches

Enjoy!

18' rod and no water, that is cheating....

Hah! No cheating just different. Believe me there is a reason he is 'big dawg' off the platform or in the water.

Here is the cheese

Nice job Gerard,Travis and Andrew.

A comment about this cast-This is the most mechanically perfect cast I've seen on video.

As a caster Gerard is amazing in his efficient use of force and solid casting mechanics and I've tried to base a lot of my casting off of his for the last couple of years.

SOR & CLA wins for Gerard this year!

Quoted from longbellycaster blog

As a note-both of the Americans who I know did well at CLA were wrestlers.

You have the wrong impression mr green. I was merely adding to the fine casting already posted.

So, here is a question, I've been watching the technique of yous longbelly/distance guys. I've noticed that when you place your anchor, a surprising amount of anchor lands behind the caster. I would have expected that would rob the delivery stroke of power/energy.

It does,I'll have to look at the vid on a better screen but it does look like too much on the vid.
The d loop can be very flat and there appears to be more anchor the there really is at times too.

The curved anchor hurts a bit too but is commonly seen.

Not just this vid, a number of the long/distance casters look to anchor 'behind' them. Is this generally a hiccup in their getup or something else?

Assumed solution: energize the top leg by forcefully rising thrusting into the drift?

Casting far is cool and all, but it doesn't help you catch fish if your presentation looks like doo doo.

That's totally true, but if a guy can cast 70.3 metres, I can imagine he surely can cast with good presentation at half that distance

would like to read your comments after you have a better look. indeed, a good caster!

What I feel here is that this long anchor set is a inevitable result from the sharp energized V loop from the long belly competition cast. it is impossible to squeeze all the V under rod tip without landing a long anchor. Unless you are doing big angle change.

Do any of you long slinging casters know just what the record distance is, length of rod, type of line, conditions, so on... Now asking all that, what would a long cast be using a Redington CPX 12'9" 7 wt using a 550 Skagit, with a 10 or 15' VersiLeader be ?

nice casting from tellis. for sure. i have lots of pix from SOR for casting analysis. yes. the line lays very flat. looks like lots of anchor. sometimes alot. sometimes not so much. some cast go farther than others. i attached a pic to show. don't remember the final distance. but i'm guessing it went quite far.
