Sure are some pretty loops thrown in that video...:smokin:
Am I the only one made nervous by some of his anchor placements? Seems ripe in some casts (aerialized snap-t for example) for sticking your self in the hand/face with your fly. Maybe I'm missing something?

that is exaclty what I thought. The last place I want that fly in directly in front of me!

Because us mere mortals couldn't do that without putting out an eye, is why it's called advanced.

He can get away with those anchor placements because he uses an oblique angle of the forward cast with a pronounced rod drift to the left after the stop...otherwise he'd be getting collision loops or smacking the blank.
It's hard to pick up on, but watch how he uses the angle and weight of the loop to pop the fly out sideways from under the line.
Also notable, look at how much top hand he uses throughout the casting cycle, and the unusual key position he starts the forward cast from.
wear your eye protection kids, this stuff is not for amateurs!

I've been using aerial snap casts for a couple of years, since a friend showed and taught it to me, and I find it a very useful cast: it's not difficult at all on shooting heads (I don't know if it's so easy with skagit or long lines), and it's so less water-disturbing than regular snaps.
By the way, Eoin is a terrific caster! :smokin::cool:

Eoin is as good as it gets, nothing nervous there if you know what you are doing-

considering how much you dislike the extra unnecessary movements of the perry poke,....i'm surprised you'd entertain a cast like the helicopter or triple snake roll.

I think it is fair to say that Eoin was having fun whilst casting. I don't believe for a minute that he would be recommending the helicopter cast for fishing purposes.

If you are fishing near Kelso you may well have Eion walk along with his rusty Labrador and lovely wife Sue.....a short while ago I was using a Burkie 11'7" - which Eion had never seen before - and he gave an exhibition of totally perfect timing with that rod before finishing the dog walk! He liked the rod a lot!!
