Anyone knowing what's going on with this volume? It says it came out September 2010 but doesn't have a buy option. The trailer looked great! and itching to get it! Thanks.
Jeff is hard at work with the final editing. He told me he is shooting for the end of this month. I have placed my order for several copies and hope to have some of the first copies shipped.

Loved it. This is the best piece of work on actual steelhead fishing with a swung fly (a different category than casting) that I've ever seen.
Lani will love it, for sure.
As I had hoped, it departs from the 101-level "cast--- mend,--- swing --- pray" approach. It delivered what was promised.
Good, smart narration and situation set up. Congrats to Scott and his team; there's really sharp skill and talent evident in the production, music, filming, and outline of topics. The effort really shows.

Easily the best instructional video on actually fishing scenarios that I have seen. Good to see such quality and time put into this one. If I could give anyone some advice...............buy Skagit Master 2. :D

I have to agree with Iwanna's comment; the best detailed instructional on swinging different water types. The popping technique was an eye-opener, for sure. Enjoyed the fast-forward tying segments, as well:smokin:. Also, good continuity with SM1. Alot of info in 1 DVD. Kudo's to Scott & Jeff!

Scott and Jeff did a helluva job on this video! Just got mine today, and can't believe the amount of info that was in the vid. Not to mention, it was good to see some of the scenery from where I grew up!
Got mine late last week and promptly watched it with my son. He liked the popper stuff, as did his dad. I know a sweet little river that looks a bit like the Umpqua where I'm gonna have to try that stuff. Makes sense to use a switch rod.
Got a kick out of Scott "swinging a fly" past the long-belly guys on speypages!
Recognized a lot of Northern BC water in the video, and it was fun to see how he approached some of the same runs that I've been fishing.
There's a bit of casting in this vid, but it is strictly from the angling perspective, which I found really useful. Cast with your fishing objective in mind is the message. Too often guys get hung up on casting pretty and far instead of fishing. I must admit I still struggle with that at times. For someone new to the whole steelheading game, there are few DVDs out there that rival the wealth of fishing info in SkagitMaster2.
I found the embedded commercials a bit annoying but I know why these are there; certainly the production quality more than makes up for their presence. I know how much it costs to produce flyfishing DVDs, and sponsors are looking for more bang for their advertising buck these days. Guys wearing your waders or casting your lines just don't cut it for some sponsors anymore.
What I liked most about it was its honesty. Here you have a world class steelheader intimately familiar with the Skeena system, and he's going days and days without fish. That run where he pops three or four fish--I've been there and it is a pretty magical place where yes that sort of thing really does happen--but it's balanced by lots of steppin' and swingin' without a pull.
If you don't have a copy grab one. Required viewing.

REALLY shows you how to get your fly bit. Just wish there was a disclaimer about the worm weights being illegal in the "FLY ONLY" section of the North Umpqua, I would hate for people to think that's OK there.

Weights are only illegal July, August and September I believe. Can't remember if it is also october too.

Weight IS allowed but only if built into the fly itself(Oct-June). Adding attachments to your line is not. That includes split shot, indicators and such. A worm weight in ON the line not IN the fly, which makes it against the rules. As with any water we fish, it is up to the angler to know the rules, just thought it should of been mentioned since most of the anglers on this site associate Scott with the NU and then most of the anglers that might travel to fish there would probably fish within the "FLY WATER". excerpt from ODFW booklet;
*************************************************
North Umpqua River from fly area
boundary above Rock Creek,
upstream to Soda Springs Dam
(31 miles)
• Catch and release for trout.
• Open for adipose fin-clipped steelhead entire year.
• Open for adipose fin-clipped coho salmon as per Zone Regulations.
Special Gear Restrictions and Closures:
• July 1-Sept. 30 all angling restricted to use of single barbless unweighted artificial fly.
For the purposes of this rule, an unweighted artificial fly is defined as: “a conventional
hook that is dressed with natural or artificial materials, and to which no molded weight
(such as split shot, jig heads or dumbbell eyes), metal wire, metal beads, bead chain
eyes, or plastic body are affixed, and to which no added weight, spinning or attractor
device, or natural bait is attached.”
• Jan. 1-June 30 and Oct. 1-Dec. 31 restricted to fly angling only with single barbless
hook (see fly angling and artificial fly definitions on page 8).
• Any type rod or reel permitted, but no metal core lines and no added weights or
attachments to line, leader or fly (including, but not limited to, strike indicators) except
non-fly monofilament lines may have a casting bubble or similar floating device.
• Closed from Soda Springs Dam downstream about 1/2 mile to marker located downstream from power plant enclosure.
• No angling from a floating device.

If I am reading this right, I would say no added weights ever (included sink tips?) and only weighted flies from 10/1-6/30. Any comments?
In regards to Skagit Master II, I also liked it and it was a good addition the the library. In fact because of it I also picked up Skagit Master I last week week and really liked it also.

What I gather from my own interpretation of rules and from talking with officers. "Weighted flies" (look up definition of "fly" in OR regs, the weight has to be built into fly, like bead heads and lead eyes tied in permanently) ARE allowed from Oct 1-June 31. Sink tips(without metal core, like lead) are allowed all year at this point. Adding anything to your line or tippet material is illegal as far as I know(bobber, split shot, worm weight, etc.). So things like tube flies could be interpreted as illegal, but officers would unlikely fine you as long as it's barbless. If Worm Weights were OK, than I would think split shot is fine too, but it's not, I asked an officer. Anyway I know it's confusing, but that's what I think anyway.

Those are really good points. Tube flies are an interesting point. In the definition of fly they aren't technically flies so they would be illegal too. I would assume that this guide shouldn't be fishing worm weights if they are illegal. I have made my feelings know about this whole thing and this guide(watched it this weekend) but never accused him of doing illegal.
I think some of this comes down to intent which is why one person saying tube flies would be overlooked that a worm weight slide right down to the eye would also. Both are added to the line and not technically part of the fly. But I also don't think the intent is to go against the intent of the law. that being said we can't pick and choose what laws to obey or not. At least we would have to take the consequences of our actions.

Tungsten is also a metal, so are they saying that you can't use any of the various "T-?" sink tips (including the MOW tips) which are a tungsten core?

Let me just say that I am not accusing anyone of doing anything illegal. Scott spends most of his winter fishing outside the NU fly water. He is really only around the fly only section for a few months out of the year, mostly in the summer. You can do whatever you'd like below the Rock Creek area.

T-14 is not a tungsten core, but a coating. From what officer's had told me, if you can kink your tip, it's illegal, if it bounces back, OK! And as far as the intention of tube flies vs. worm weights, in my opinion there is a big difference in advantage gained. A simple weight that is attached to the line is not the same as a tube "fly" that took time, effort and skill to "build". Besides the weight is in the tube "fly" and not just added like split shot.

That's good info on the T-14 as being a coating and nice to know how to check... Thanks!

I agree.A very serious oversight I would say. To have an opportunity to educate the general public as to the law in the DVD and not do so is negligent.

Finally got to watch the vid, very impressed and by far the best fishing orientated since Lani's.
Some cool stuff, thats for sure
Much to the satisfaction of a number of members, I have made a point of only posting on this site when coming to my own defense. Worm weights on the NU? The short of it is: when not attached to the fly they are illegal. The rules make that clear. It is ones personal responsibility to educate themselves what the laws of a particular river or section of river are before fishing. As for the DVD - for those not so eager to be critical, it was apparent when doing the NU sequence, I used a fly with the worm weight actually slid onto the shank of the hook (legal). We showed a picture of me holding one in my hand during the NU sequence. I told Jeff when filming this segment, it would be important to explain weight rules on the NU and how this applies to the worm weight concept because there are a group of people out there that are hungry to attack me at every chance (we even shot a whole sequence of me explaining the worm weight legality on the NU and how they must be rigged). I can't speak for Jeff who obviously made the final editing cuts on what made the show and what didn't but in the end, this is not a show on how to fish the NU. We just used the NU as a chalk board for some of our tutorials on fishing the sunk fly. We even made a point of not showing any actual fishing on the NU in the winter. Never at any point did we step into a run on the NU and say, "here we are at run X and here is how you do it!" We used a couple spots to demonstrate the particular "types" of water we were hoping to address but never got into any of the specifics that are crucial for catching fish at each of these particular spots. For anyone who is schooled on fishing the NU in the winter (and actually catch fish with regularity) know how "exact" each of these spots are. Our demonstrations went a long way from drawing diagrams of where the fish lay, which rock to stand on, angle of cast, how much weight, and so on... All these components are vital when fishing each NU run effectively. Once again, just making the point that this was not a film on how to fish the NU. I would expect each individual to learn these things on there own, as well as, making themselves familiar with the rules of the river. I appreciate people's passion for the river and will take that into consideration when not attacking those that find it so easy to regularly make me out as the villain.

Got together at my buddys house on Saturday night, with a half dozen other Spey/Steelhead guys to watch SM2. We all enjoyed pizza, drinks and a few hours of great discussion about swinging flies and the different techniques that Scott was demonstrating. Two thumbs up!

I've been digging the sections where the runs are a bit smaller... helps to re-think my close game for my home river.
I really liked the fast-forwarded tying sessions, too.

I would like to thank all of you for the great comments about the show. It's been very popular, so much so that it is the number 1 selling fishing DVD in all categories for 2010/2011 according to my main distributor. It also boosted the sales of SM1, which ran as the second best selling DVD for that period until the last month or so.
Scott and Ed will be hard acts to follow.
I'm deep into editing number 3 which focuses on steelhead flies. Not by the book steelhead flies, but flies of unique origins. There are a few patterns based on classic principles, but for the most part I'm featuring fresh ideas.
It will be hard to top the success of the previous two shows, but as I look at the sequences on my computer, I really like what I see.
Hope to hear your thoughts after I release this one. Thanks for your interest.
