Can any one please send me details or tell me where I can find details of the Ian Wood salmon fly dressing which was popular in the early 70's

Tail: goden pheasant topping
Body: flat gold ribbed with fine oval gold
Hackle: ginger
Wing: white tipped turkey.

This fly dates back to the early fifties when Ian Wood, former editor of Trout & Salmon magazine and doyen of Loch Lomond fishers, broke the Loch Lomond
record for a single days fishing by landing seven salmon weighing 77.5lbs on this pattern. It is said that he used two of these flies on his loch cast and caught most of his salmon on the bob fly.

See photo of sample attached.

Although the above pattern is correct. Later in his fishing life Ian Wood fished the fly with no hackle and no tail, simply:

Body: flat gold ribbed with fine oval gold
Wing: white tipped turkey.

There are other variations fished on Loch Lomond, most notably the same fly with a silver body. However, Wood himself was not a fan of flies with silver bodies, believing them to be too harsh and that the more sombre hues of gold were easier on the eye and more attractive to the fish.

When he fished two flies of the same pattern, one would be 'dibbled' in the surface with the other one sub-surface.

GaryW, Interesting statment. In reading it I was reminded that I feel 100% the opposite as Mr Wood concerning the gold versus silver. I have always liked silver much better for the fishing I do here in the western USA. Difference in location or baitfish color or something, although I will admit the Muddler is one of the most successful patterns going and the original had a golden hue.
I do love the way Mr. Wood fished his patterns. That method can be a killer on the Clearwater trout here in Idaho. Thanks for sharing.
