Hi,

this question has been asked before. i'll raise it again.

what inspires YOU at the tying bench?

tonight for me it's been founder's devil dancer triple ipa (13%) and mr. jimi hendrix. got some really nice 20mm waddington intruders in black and purple going.

come to think of it, hendrix usually goes into the tunes when i start to tie.

what's it for YOU? should be interesting considering the different generations on the board.

happy tying.

Gary

P.S. got frostnip on the finger tips 11/24. finally getting the feeling back. hard to tie when the tips are numb.

what inspires YOU at the tying bench?

looking in my boxes and seeing empty clips.

also...

steelhead. the thought of swinging my fly through fishy water the next day(s) inspire/motivate me & because of this, i have a hard time tying just to tie and a hard time tying a ways in advance. more often then not, when my boxes are bare, i am tyin' way into the wee hours of the night before fishin'. and thank god these marathon sessions lead to many more flies then i need in the following day(s)) or else i would be tying way into the early morning hours every week.

Not catching fish on the flies in my box inspires me to sit at the vise, but once there I try to tie something with some lifelike look and movement to it. Funny how that can be so different from my perspective and the fishes :(

I usually listen to jazz or classical, but if for some reason I feel the need for alchohol and "Innagoddadavida baby" I probably should leave the fly tying and all of it's sharp and pointy implements alone. That (for me) usually turns out flies even the cat won't play with.
