Welcome to the Spey Pages fly section. It is time that we had our own section. So to kick it off in style I propose that members post some pix of their favoutite flies. We may may have seen these all before, but what can I say they are pretty to look at!

I imagine people can guess what my favourite is...

This pattern has become one of my go-to dressings over the last year. I fish it on everything from 3/0 to size 7 AJs for both summer and winter fish.

One of my favorite classic winter flies, the Akroyd tied with Argus Pheasant wing.

Russ I have been fishing my Akroyds quite a bit this year. Been using peacock secondary on mine though but these patterns sure swim well. Will try and introduce one to an OP fish this year :)

Peter these flies take a max of 10 minutes if you have all the materials laid out. Not bad at all time wise.

Out of season, but here are pictures (from scanner, so forgive the quality) of the 2 versions of my favorite summer steelhead fly, a waker.

These flies were previously fished. You can see the crease in the middle of the hair head where the riffle hitch was tied:

Caddis Variant (I call this a Discomoecus since it is bright and flashy, and named after the October Caddis):

Peter,

Yep, I fish them and several other of the old classic dees (Avon Eagle and Inchgarth) complete with the braided mono eye on the blind eye hook. And as Sean mentioned, if you have the materials laid out and ready to tie, all it takes is 10 minutes to tie one.

Sean,

I agree with you about peacock secondary making very nice dee wings.

Here is an Inchgarth for you Peter. Unfortunately, my scanner changed the rear body color from the light yellow-orange it is and the front body color from the fiery red it is.

thanks for sharing Toni, Neil -

How are those nylon inserts set into the head of the cones? I noticed they are flared but at a much finer diameter than the tube protruding from the rear.

thanks in advance

SplicedSharpe,

It is very nice seeing someone actually using the Moonlight as a fishing fly, instead of having it tied solely for show.

Sean,

I've not used the Beauly Snow Fly, but I have used Kelson's Silver Spectre and it is a goody for steelhead. Veverka has the Silver Spectre in his book complete with a great photo of his tie of it.

Flytyer, I think those patterns are to nice looking, not to fish with. I do have to admit that in slower water they look a bit stiff but when there's some nice "puch" in the water they look just as good and "alive" as a hair winged fly.

Here is an articulated sculpin pattern that I really like. It's inspired by Kevin Feenstra's sculpin. I added the back hook and can't believe how good it looks in the water. :whoa:

You can find the details on this fly over in the Flytalk forum under the steelhead flies room.

Glasso style spey adaptation of John Shewey's Spawning Purple steelhead fly. Between this, and a Glasso style spey adaptation of Amy Hazel's Green Butt Lum Plum steelhead fly, my go-to fly... Been good to me on the Hoh and Deschutes, and MF Salmon River...

Heres an intruder tied with a tube on a braided mono loop. The hackle is Moluccan cockatoo from a co-workers pet, great hackles, too bad he only drops 3-4 a year. I think I may have a few and bring them to the Mo clave. The fly is a bit "wrinkled" due to being placed in my scanner.

Although not a spey fly I lke the Nighthawk for Atlantic salmon fishing. I have just started tying tube flies and I plan to adapt a number of hairwing flies to this new to me tying method.

I am particularly interested in finding out what is in use as a tube fly for Atlantic salmon fishing.

Nice Fly,
I think a good colection of scandinavian Tube flys is the Mikael Frödin Fly collection, distributed by guide line.
